Trump is a private citizen now - if people aren't interested in what he says (I'm not but that's just me) they can just ignore him. I'm thinking Democrats are quite happy that Trump is still in the public's collective head - it's a great distraction from their own inevitable, imminent deficiencies & failings. Just my take on it.

I'm not saying this to excuse Sarko in any way, but what he did wasn't nearly as bad as what Trump did. Will the Americans have the guts to put a former president in prison? Personally, I doubt it. (Although, what with appeals and everything, it's not yet sure that Sarko will see the inside of a prison, either.)
