https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/man-death-eight-teen-girls-charged-toronto-1.6692698 Eight teenage girls met online in Toronto and decided to attack a random stranger. They tried the first victim but evidently, that one got away, so they coordinated again on social media, went to the local homeless shelter, and killed someone associated with that shelter. Police say it started as a beating then proceeded into a stabbing. The victim died at the hospital shortly thereafter. One of the witnesses said the victim had protected her from assault while at the shelter. There is currently not believed to be any association between the victim and the attackers. Several of the attackers are below the age of 15.
@Spaceturkey as I thought the thread title referred to the country, so he might not check it otherwise.
But social media is a-okay and not harming society at all. Do you think this type of random grouping would have been possible 20 years ago? Nothing to see here. Move along.
yeah, I work at a drop in for the unhoused, not a client. Kind of troubling that this sort of violence against the impoverished still exists, as it sounds like the murderers are all from the relatively affluent suburbs. Wish I could say it was shocking, but our clients get beat up (and occasionally die from the injuries) by tourists a lot. People with some semblance of security to their lives REALLY hate those who have lost it.
swarmings? yeah. the term itself is from the 80s at least. "Preppie" gangs - like the UTs - had a similar habit of going all "Clockwork Orange under the bridge scene" on street people.
Apparently none of the teenage twats involved in the murder had a connection, other than meeting each over other Tik Tok or some other garbage social media site. Swarmings have been around for decades, but the ability for random pyschopaths to easily connect has only been around for the last 10-15 years.
