This is excellent news.

I've never understood why any American citizen would defend sanctuary cities.

Maybe because I don't want my taxes going to imprison illegals waiting for deportation in my county jails while other criminals go free because the Feds are too slow or unwilling to take the illegals to federal detention centers.

But Dayton likes his taxes to go up or have other criminals walk free due to jail overcrowding.

You have actual evidence that illegal aliens take up jail space that should be used for "real criminals" (ignoring the fact that illegal aliens ARE real criminals).

State control is local control as far as I'm concerned.

It's Fed control. Saying local cops have to do what the Feds tell them to.

Thing is, as has already been pointed out, most illegals overstayed their visas...which isn't a crime. It's a civil matter.

I am all for this and would love to see the wetback pandering shitbags in our state legislature hanged. Currently, they are trying to make it illegal at the state level for any local city or county officials to cooperate with the Feds on any deportation matter at all. Even if the illegal alien in question is a murderer or rapist.

the "loophole" on cooperation (which isn't a loophole so much as ozone layer hole sized) is that the locals only have to cooperate with the feds if there is "probable cause" and apparently rape & murder aren't enough to meet that standard. The recent Maryland high school bathroom rape is an example.

Seriously, I used to know a Mexican-American guy who owned a three generation old family plumbing business. He did everything right, paid legal wages, had the employees work on the books, paid his full share of business and personal taxes, followed the regulations just like his father and grandfather did before him. The guy would go into fits of rage about "wetbacks" meaning illegal aliens who under cut his business by not paying legal wage rates, having people work under the table, not paying the business and personal taxes, not following the regulations, etc...

There seems to be some legal complexity to the matter, but I'm not going to cry about local officials no longer able to harbor illegals.
