You had two plane loads of noble freedom fighters sitting on your soil and you did nothing to free them from eeeeeevil American tyranny? Dan, your apathy is part of the problem.
Wow. Well if that's the worst wrongness (unknowingly allowing rendition flight stopovers on UK territory) then what's the problem? That's an easy sell, just blame the US for the whole thing.
Well, chop chop. Get cracking on a strongly worded letter, expressing your disapproval. Eh. That would entail getting out some paper and a pen and finding some stamps...finding an address to write to. And a trip to the mailbox to send it out. You'd better just tell all us how very, very disappointed you are.
I don't know how backward you might be in the so-called Greatest Nation on Earth, but here in Blighty it's possible to e-mail the government. Hell, you can even text 'em, albeit at a premium rate.
An option if you enjoy composing mail bound for a giant Junk Folder and receiving a stirring auto-responder sent form letter.
You think Volpone's hand-written missive is gonna get any more attention? My point was, Dan doesn't need to leave the house to lodge a protest with the government, even if they're just going to ignore it. Same goes for Peter Octavian's "clouding the issue with facts" BS. What, you think your congressman's office doesn't have stock rubberstamped responses to physical letters as well as e-mail?
Well, maybe it's just bullshit--I don't have any direct evidence--but I've always heard that an actual paper letter carries more weight with legislators. Anyone can click to sign an online petition, but taking the time to even print up a form letter, stamp an envelope, look up the address, and stick it in the mail makes the guy feel like you cared more about the issue than someone who zips off an e-mail. Machs nicht either way, I'll bet Danny Boy won't even go to the trouble of sending an e-mail.
I emailed my MP about an upcoming ID card vote. I got a personal, written reply, explaining his position and intentions.
Shit, I've been to Nick J. Rahall and Robert C. Byrd's office in Huntington more times than I can count. Form letter or no, it's nice to unload on some congressional lackey since it's nigh on impossible to actually talk to one's elected officials these days.
Well...you can get either, it depends. Zel's father wrote a letter of complaint to Congressman Tom Allen about an insurance company not paying for medical treatments a court ordered them to do because of workplace injuries, and he received a personal phone call as well as Mr. Allen's personal intervention with the company. The checks started coming and he had no further problems. Issues I have contacted them over, I have gotten both form letters and a couple that were clearly not "scripted". I imagine it's a matter of time and precieved importance.
