I have to pay $62, so it' getting mailed on Tuesday. And I use Tax Act to calculate my taxes, it's free for Federal filing, and I just work out my state tax return. But then I'm a tax accountant, so this is second nature to me.
Filed nearly a month ago. Federal was easy if long. Having a 1099-MISC didn't help (Dear Schedule C - fuck off and die). On the plus side I had lots of deductions and my own business was decidedly unprofitable, so I got a rather large refund ($2032). OH was easy-ish, and I owed $22. CA was hell. Wouldn't take my 1099-MISC on the online form, so I had to do it on paper. There was some 2" long worksheet whose instructions were so unclear it took me a half hour to decipher them, and involved going to three separate instruction books, the CA 540, the Schedule CA 540, and the 1040. Not the short 1040 instructions either, the unabridged ones. In the end I'm getting (got? haven't checked) something like $500 back from CA.
I have always done my own and some taxes for others. Its just not that complicated folks. I have never seen the need to use turbo tax or H&R block. Just read the dang booklet and fill in the form
This from the man who is paying how much again??? We got a refund for the second year running this year. Yea. Ours were done in February. Gather the info, take it to accountant, let him think about how to do all the deductions and taking the cost of something out over so many years, and so forth.
