    Boy, do you guys suffer!

    Now I do, too. :garamet:

I've finally got around to trying out TurboTax, and fuck me, this is torture. Anyone got any advice, or should I just give up and go to H&R Block or something. Once I've got through it the first time, it should get much easier, right?

    Right?

    Unless you're filing a 1040EZ, I can't really help.

I had a look at the Clinton's tax return yesterday. Holy crap, it's 30 pages plus a 20 page appendix

I just did my private one btw. Four pages, two if you don't have children or some handicap

I did mine online for free via one of the links the IRS has.

Got my interest-free loan to the government refunded to me back in February.

It doesn't help that I lived in two different states, and became a resident alien during 2007. Plus I have foreign savings, etc, that I don't know what to do with, or how they translate.

I would have thought your growth while living in Yurp would have you rubbing one out in anticipation of filing your taxes. :finger:

Try looking for those guys who wear the Statue of Liberty outfit in front of the accountants' offices this year. :D

    You have children? :wtf:

I'm at 14 pages so far, and I still haven't figured out whether I have to file for New Jersey or not yet! (I lived there, but was not permitted to work, so earned no income).

Nope, no children. Thus I had to fill out only two pages. It's all on the same form ;)

Yeah, I just kinda ignored all that. I just put in my W2 info and didn't deal with anything else. Getting 2442 back. :techman:

I 'legally' live in two different states as well. WA doesn't file, and when I tried to file for AL it told me I owed 63 bucks?!?! What the fuck? No way am I paying them like 60 bucks a month, and then another 60 when I spent all of.... 8? days in the state this year? Considering I made a whoping 17K this year, I don't see how I owe anything actually. Usually they cut me a check.

Stayed home and Turbo Taxed today.

We were getting $16 back, but since it's such a small amount, I'm going to apply it to next year's taxes.

Also, shame on the lot of you. I did mine over a month ago and I'm thinking of putting that delicious return into a new shiny revolver.

Wow. And that's with private capital income, a job, and renting out apartments?

Mine's still ahead of me this year, but I'll be filling out at least 8 pages, and I don't truly understand any one of them.

We dont have any of that in the UK, unless you're self-employed. I think I can be glad about that :)

    I hate you.

Turbo tax generated 72 pages of god knows what for my return. I think they're using the "baffle them with bullshit" algorithm. I only input about 7 or 8 pages of data. shudder.

    No shame here.

We generally wait until the deadline to file our return.

We've adjusted our withholding and deductions so that we either have to pay a very small amount or we get a very small return (see my previous post).

I'm not keen on giving the government an interest-free loan.

Had mine done in mid-Feb, e-filed, had my refunds e-deposited within 10 days. Wasn't even aware of it for another week, 'til I checked....

    I was $3 out!

But I also had an 'error' that would have had the whole thing sent back to me, :bergman:

Er, no. Top-rate tax payers usually have to file, too. Not onerous, if you're anything like me - ie, income only from my job and tiny savings - but a bloody long booklet to fill in.
Luckily, the inland revenue has now accepted how straightforward my affairs are and I don't have to file every year.

This one was just my private one - job plus letting, which is just another job as far as the Finanzminister is concerned. Only problem is that I can't do it online due to my previous self-employment - I need to fill out the bloody form.

I'd really like to have capital income btw ;)

I did my federal taxes back in February, but waited til yesterday to do my state taxes because for some reason there's more paperwork to file a state income tax return than a federal income tax return. I'll get $57 back, big whoop.

I was getting ready to put our tax return in the mail and, when I was gathering the various forms, I realized I hadn't included our charitable contributions in the tax deductions.

I re-Turbo Taxed them and now we're getting a refund of $1400. :garamet:

I know you're ticked that you gave the government an interest free loan, but its better than having just given them the money altogether without noticing your error.
