...on Netflix. It's almost a spoiler to mention that Ellis wrote this, as the whole show is about being not what you expect -- from anime, from a videogame series, from a Castlevania plot. And yet it captures the spirit of the original (!) games amazingly in an upside down kind of way. Anyone else seen this?
I have it downloaded but have not had time to watch yet. The reviews are good though. Also http://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/castlevania-the-netflix-anime.113232/ Maybe the mods can merge these
Favorite scene, the demons entering the church to kill the hypocrite clergy asshole... "I have devoted all of my work in God's name!!". "Your work makes your God puke ".
Somehow completely missed the other thread, oops. Yeah, another vote for a merger. Meanwhile, are the Speakers new? Or did they appear in later games?
They're new, and they're not. Sypha Belnades is from the game, and she had to belong to some order, so they backtracked, and fleshed that out. So, they're not in the games, but their existence is kind of implied.
Oh yeah I loved that they went there with the show! Dracula isn't exactly a good guy but neither is the Church. So far it's pretty good, although these four episodes really seem more like prologue for the actual adventure. We still need to meet Grant Danesti, the other playable character from Castlevania III. Trevor's introduction to Sypha and Alucard was pretty much exactly like it was in the games. In the game you fight a cyclops to free Sypha from the statue. And you fight Alucard before he agrees to join up with you. Alucard's outfit seems to be very close to his depiction in Symphony Of The Night so it looks like they are fleshing out the story with elements from other games as well as from the actual history of Vlad Tepes, ruler of Wallachia. Can't wait to see some other enemies like the Grim Reaper and locations from the game like the Haunted Forest, the Ghost Ship, and the Clocktower.
Although I have to say I'm a little disappointed they didn't use any of the in game music. Especially since Castlevania III in particular has one of the best soundtracks in the entire NES library. I have a remixed version of the soundtrack on CD. It's really great what they were able to accomplish with chip tunes.
