http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Movie-News/Watchmen-Release-Stopped/800045345 Seems to me that Fox had plenty of time to put a stop to the movie before now. Why wait?
Imagine the guy at Warner Brothers responsible for clearing the rights to 'The Watchmen,' who is told--after the multi-million dollar film is in the can--that the film may not see the light of day because he didn't establish rights to the material properly, meaning that millions of dollars of producers' money is lost and lawsuits will soon be flying fast and furious... That guy probably left the office early, picked up some whisky on the way home, had a shot (or sixteen), and spent the remainder of the evening wailing in torment while searching for that old box of bullets...
According to the article, Fox does not want any proceeds, they want to stop distribution. Though that may be just a ploy to get a bigger share...
I think Fox still has the distribution rights to the property. But don't worry folks! Remember how easily Fox & Warner's settled that pesky rights issue over the DVD release of the 1966 Batman TV series? Oh wait...
Well, I always wanted to burn a movie studio to the ground... I just always figured it'd be whoever makes all those 'made for scifi' movies.
I really think its some sort of bet or game of chicken where they dare each-other to make worse and worse movies.
Entertainment Weekly is running an article quoting Kevin Smith as saying that the movie is astounding. Apparently Snyder showed him the 3-hour cut of the film a week or two ago, and he raved about it on his website. Of course, you may not care about what Kevin Smith thinks.
I hold Kevin Smith at just about the same regard as Quentin Tarantino - someone who can appeal only to teenage male sensabilities and maturity.
