Beef. I hear it's terrible. Knew someone who dated a Muslim. Accidentally tried real bacon, didn't go back. So much for that shit, eh?
No surprise here. The Greek Orthodox church doesn't have the benefit of always having that veiled (swidt?) threat, the spectre of bombs and beheadings floating around in the background if they don't get their way. Also the Greek Orthodox Church doesn't have the benefit of being the darlings of the liberal left.
Droning repetition of bullshit doesn't make it true, or else all that droning in mosques would have poofed up Allah by now.
The Greek Orthodox Church apparently demanded the government fund its construction efforts. That is a very big difference from those wishing to build the mosque. If the Greek Orthodox Church wishes to fund construction, there would be no obstacles. If government - quite properly - does not wish to finance a church, that hardly constitutes interference. Quite the opposite; government is upholding the freedom of religion principle upon which this nation is founded. It continues to baffle me why so many Americans seem to take the same stance as their Islamic enemies; that freedom of religion is somehow a negative thing.
Is it difficult for people to read around here today? The government was going to give them $20 million dollars. They didn't demand anything however they wanted the money upfront so they could be sure they could build the church.
The point remains, if they can produce the funding, there is nothing to prevent them from building the church. It is not government's place to fund it in the first place.
"He released a written statement last week calling the Port Authority "disingenuous and disrespectful" for claiming the church project could go forward." And it's not as clear cut as you're pretending Dr. Retard. You can't just build in that city. You've got all sorts of hoops you have to jump through the least of which deals with what's under your building as well. Not to mention the location as well. The Port Authority wanted them to move the church from here it's original site was.
And here is the key phrase. Two projects that are completely different and have nothing to do with each other, yet the professional victims in the Conservative Whining Brigade have seized on them because they can make them fit the "Christians are persecuted" narrative that they're so desperate to push.
True. A faith of virtue is only as good as the person who wields it. There are good religious people and bad religious people, either way, remove the word religious and the statement is still true.
No, I'm simply not a misanthrope like you. Human nature is varied and has potential for both the positive and negative.
Churches (and, unfortunately, Church Street) near WTC site and existing mosques and synagogues I'm starting to lose what little interest I had in the "controversy".
Why exactly would 'Church street' be an unfortunate name for a street in a city? This is the part where people get annoyed at the 'separation of church and state' bullshit that's gone beyond all rhyme or reason. You shouldn't have to hide the fact that the street was named after a location where houses of worship once existed (whether or not they still do). That's a cultural issue, not a religious one.
It's unfortunate because google maps automatically tags every business that has "Church Street" in the name and it connects to the location under discussion. This could confuse the viewer as to the actual concentration of (Christian) houses of worship in the area. I wanted a truer ratio of the big 3 monotheistics' representation. Does digging so deep for bullshit interpretations affect your sense of smell?
Now, c'mon on Turkey, be fair. Ever since you banned me on false grounds then lied to cover it up, I've always smelled bullshit when you were in a thread. As it is, I misunderstood what you stated - even then I didn't go apeshit on you, just pointed out that someone who meant such a thing (which you didn't) was taking separation of church and state too far. And yes, there are some extremist assholes that do take that too far, as I'm sure you are aware. As far as your intended search, here's a decent post on it on yahoo answers: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100720163629AA8FgrA
nice of you not to go apeshit on me when you don't understand cheers on the link... it appears that the location is behind st peter's? yeah, the outrage is getting lamer and lamer as I bother to minimally examine it.
Yep, we'd all have arguments over which type of atheism is better than the other. The writers of "South Park" really nailed that episode.
