I didn't see a thread about this, so I figured why not? What are you eating, Wordforge? What food do you like, what are you having for breakfast/lunch/dinner/a snack, and where do you like to go when you go out to eat? I'll start because that's the whole point. I just made tacos. Yeah, I know, it's not Taco Tuesday, but I tend to make tacos on a Monday because it's usually Sunday evening when I get a hankering for them, and so I plan out what I'm going to make the next day. They're traditional US style tacos: seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, sauces if you want them, on crunchy shells or a soft burrito tortilla. So anyway I ate ten of them. Yeah, I ate ten (10) tacos. I mean, in fairness, my blood sugar was 43 because I waited too long to start dinner, but I ate ten of those tasty little bastards and I'd do it all again.
I don’t usually eat breakfast but I sometimes make an exception on Sundays. Machacado con huevos, my favorite breakfast meal. Dried, shredded beef cooked with eggs, onions, tomatoes, and jalapenos.
Oh, that looks so good! I'm a savory breakfast eater. I don't like sweet stuff. Something like that would be perfect. I might have to try it sometime.
Same, minus the nails. It’s probably been close to 20 years since I had one, though lately I’ve kinda wanted to.
I don’t always eat lunch but today is slow and I was a little hungry. This place used to be owned by a Lebanese guy but he recently sold it and the quality of the burgers went down a bit (like using romaine lettuce on them ). They seem to have gotten their groove back because this one was just as good as the burgers the place has always made. They bake their own buns and they're excellent. So good that the hamburgers are best eaten in the restaurant because if you order to go or for delivery, the bread is so light that it "steams" in the container as its traveling and falls apart when you try to eat it. The same is true for taco places that have truly excellent tortillas: the best ones are too delicate to travel because they steam in the foil the tacos are wrapped in.
I was so happy when I got home last night and remembered I had made stuffed peppers the day before and so I didn't have to make anything new. Taco Tuesday is everyday! Tonight I have bacon wrapped prawns to make-haven't decided the vegetable yet. This is the kind of thread that will just make me hungry!
I like to make omelette or eggs on the weekend. During the week I put together overnight oats w/ chia seed and hemp milk and either blueberries or other flavorings for breakfast. Coffee and OJ if I have some.
We need a drooly rating. Goddamn. Oh, stuffed peppers are so good! I will absolutely kill a plate of them.
My friend left me some homemade tomato bisque she made with roasted tomatoes. That sealed it. Sooo good.
A Ukrainian restaurant just opened a new location not far from work so I decided to give it a try. Chicken skewer with cabbage salad. Slava Ukraini!
Ooh, that looks good! I'm not much on cabbage salad, but then my favorite form of cabbage is sauerkraut, so that's just a personal preference.
No matter the cuisine, I have yet to find a cabbage dish that I won't eat. There was a Chinese buffet that used to be close to my house that had a delicious stir-fry that was almost entirely cabbage and it was amazing. As for the Ukrainian place: the food was great, but probably a little pricy considering the serving size. Also, while I applaud them for using disposable wooden utensils, the wood "knife"...sucked. I nearly pulled out my pocket knife to cut the chicken (which was plenty tender).
Yeah, the trend toward wooden utensils is good, I like that, it's the inefficacy of the cutlery itself, just like paper straws seem a reasonable way to deal with plastic waste, but are next to useless if you really need to use them. Anyhoo, I'm weird about cabbage. If it's prepared, I'm on board: in Kimchi, it's phenomenal, and of course I love sauerkraut as I mentioned before, but plain? Ugh. I'm the same way with mushrooms. Fried? Delicious. Baked into a pizza? Delicious. Put in a garden salad? Nope. Nope Nope. I think it has to do with texture.
I'm that way with certain foods, cucumbers being the prime example. The only way I'll eat them is if they're pickled. And I guess I've been lucky because I've never been to a place that uses bad paper straws. My favorite live music venue buys ones that are good enough to use in frozen margaritas without falling apart or collapsing.
Dinner. I’ve gotten to the point where I really don’t like cooking all that much so dinner is almost always something frozen I can heat up in the oven or microwave. When I do “cook” it’s often a sandwich or, in this case, linguini with store-brand sauce (which is actually really good). Whatever can be made quickly and/or painlessly. Otherwise UberEats it is.
Speaking of cabbage, I had to go to my favorite sandwich place for lunch today. They make a great Reuben sandwich. So many places make a Reuben and all you really taste is the dressing. This shop doesn’t use much dressing at all so the flavor of the sauerkraut and corned beef really come through.
Because I’m all about the Easy Dinner I eat a lot of leftovers. The Army taught me that hot sauce improves any kind of field chow, especially pasta dishes. It really perks up leftover good pasta too.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had lunch this many times in a week. Brisket taco with guacamole and pico de gallo at a little place (it literally seats maybe 30 people, max) that’s regularly ranked as the top Mexican restaurant in town, which is saying something. They also received a Michelin Recommended rating. Their smoked meats are so good that if they dropped the Mexican cuisine from the menu they’d immediately be one of the top local barbecue places.
A lot of my diet is dictated by my (lack of) teeth. False teeth simply can't handle some thing (Pork, for example - I love a good pork chop but all I can do is just kind of work it around until it's flavorless and then spit out what remains. Last night it was homemade stromboli, couple of days ago it was American goulash - "lunch" is very often just leftovers from whatever was dinner last night.
