I have a VERY old (and I mean ancient) computer with an 8085 Microprocessor that operates with 8 bit registers and 256 Kilobytes of memory only. This thing still has its 5 1/4 inch floppy drive, and is something that was around before the dinosaurs and isnt even worth the dust that has settled on it over the years. Question is: seeing that so many landfills are refusing old computers and TV monitors, what do I do with something like this?
There are many computer recycling places. Just throw "Computer recycling" and your area into Google and you'll probably come up with a few. Aren't free, though, especially when the machines cannot be reused and distributed to needy families. By the way, might want to throw the make and model of the computer into Google and take a gander. There are people out there who want really bizarre old stuff. I doubt it'll be the case for you, but it can't hurt totry!
I blow them up. For shits and giggles of course. And if that doesn't work I shoot them. Seriously though....my landfill takes them. Pay your taxes!
I pull the hard drive and take it to my recylcing center. Also, I have a guy in the building who has a used computer store, on the first floor. I give him a lot of crap too.
I kept my Atari ST. It's still in my parents' attic. The first PC got sold for £400 (a good deal back then). Second got fried by a lighten strike. Thirs suffer hard drive failure and the last, at the time a very powerful HP media centre machine, is still working and sits in my apartment, although it's been overtaken by my second laptop, which is the most pwerful machine I've had to date.
Keep it and run old games offo of it 8 bit gaming rocks. Allah akbar you have a good machine. find a nerd who plays old game sell or give to that person. It has value for it being old gamer machine.
