I was willing to accept the warning quietly if I knew something was FINALLY going to be done. It wasn't.

Now instead of quietly warning him and maybe telling him in thread to knock it off, we have this.

Yeah I was avoiding this thread because I figured it was just Sokar whining, but I'm not seeing how what he said was warnable yet what Dayton has said wasn't. Either take away Sokar's warning or issue one to Dayton.

See post 2. I can't really complain about the warning I got for it, but it was an honest explanation of why Sokar was warned for something that usually would just slide by for someone else.

Any active warnings that were on the books, that were not spambots, I have reversed.

I can't say I often agree with Sokar, but that was a pretty bizarre warning, since I assume NuTrek is not a registered member of this board.

And the amnesty thing doesn't really clear anything up. Does it mean "the warning was bad," does it mean "yes, I think the warning was legit, but I'm giving everyone amnesty for things they did," or neither of the above?

Meh. Fuck it. I can see nobody is going to take a stand and reverse it. I'm not the kind of person to post a million times on a subject and run it into the ground.

But what does that mean? It is a little unclear. The word amnesty often means "you did something wrong but it's OK, we're issuing a blanket forgiveness." Is "Fuck NuTrek" acceptable or not?

Everything is in flux right now...odds are it will depend on the thread if we adopt a paradigm that allows Red Room Rules threads and moderated threads.

If we do that, the moderated threads will be much less lax than in the past since if a poster wants a freer, feister thread that option is available.

Yes, TrekBBS has (or had, I have no idea if it still does) a rule that criticism must be accompanied by substantive content; the standard example was that you couldn't just yell "Kirk sucks!" then run out of the room. But TrekBBS was conceived as a business, one dependent on advertising, and that required appealing to the maximum number of people without diluting its niche -- and that, in turn, required adopting a certain amount of "fannishness."

Whereas Wordforge was conceived as something more like a social club, one where people could feel comfortable saying whatever was on their minds. It's one thing to have sections where flaming or trolling other members isn't allowed, and it would also be different if somebody were posting "Fuck NuTrek!" five times in a row in every thread on the board. But it's not flaming or otherwise attacking anybody, and it could be considered spamming only by the tightest possible definition of the word.

In a non-RRR thread, you should still be able to say some TV/movie producer should go fuck himself, even though you can't tell other members to go fuck themselves.

And if the new policy is going to be that we can't say fuck NuTrek in a non-RRR thread, then fuck the proposed rule change. RRR should mean flaming and trolling, but it shouldn't mean that other MC threads need sanitized laanguage.

And also why Dayton wasn't warned. Just repeating his opinions that a show sucks, even if it annoys people, isn't warnable unless you want really strict moderating.
