What the Hell is an Emo?

Please elaborate

Emo was/is a subset of punk music - basically punk + emotional themed lyrics that are more internal.

However, the term emo today means a subset of teenagers who dress like douchebags. Just think of them as 21st century goths.

Think of a Punk but instead of filled with teenage energy and rage, it's ennui and self pity.

All the UK goths are now emo's.

Fromwhat i can see its just a change in terminology, all the goth kids are emo.

Goth had more chains and heavier piercings.

Emo's have also branched out beyond black only makeup, and they wear more suits.

Old school goths were never as whiny as emos.

Already said it in the other thread: goth-lite where all the appealing things like satanic mass and sleeping over at the cemetery are missing and only the whiny, stupid parts are present. It's especially lovely to hear them (=14 year old kids from upper middle class families in one of the richest countries) talk about how hard life has been to them. How much they have been thru. How much they crave hugs and more big screen TVs
