First off: I don't really give a fuck, I'll start bitching when I feel there's something seriously wrong (which I don't think there is right now). Unless I'm really wrong (and I know Tex and Timmy will have to say I am but you know what I mean ;)) Tex is just using this to get some easy entertainment. Timmy...well, he's being Timmy. :nyer:
They know they're right, you know they're right, they know you won't admit it, you can't admit it and so here we are, dancing the usual dance with no Elwood in sight to set things straight but also no usual suspects to let things get out of hand. Just your average weekend bickering, I guess. :busheep:

    Anyway, a couple of thoughts:
[internet lawyer]Technically, vandy didn't ask the men to stay out of the thread. Yes, one could say that was clear from how the thread got started but she didn't specifically ask for it so lurker's point about the second post being by a male member doesn't really count. :soholy: [/internet lawyer]
Anyway, as I said up there: everyone knows what happened here was wrong and Tex and Timmy are right. There was absolutely no reason for the thread to be moved to the Green Room (it was started in the RR) and there is absolutely nothing to stop the men from posting - apart from common decency and the threat of no more boobies. Chris, being Chris, offered to "solve" the problem by moving the thread - thereby creating this entire "problem" here - and MrsA showed some real fucked up "power abuse!!!!!OMG!!!OHNOES!!!" by splitting the thread.
Yeah, that's the situation right there - and we're left dancing. It's obvious that Chris won't (and can't) admit his "mistake", it's also obvious that Tex won't stop until he gets bored. Maybe some others will join in (at which point I'll personally get bored and ignore the thread because it'll grow faster than any other thread) but probably they won't because the issue really isn't significant enough.
Which leaves us with a bit of a problem here - there's really no justification for what "happened" (OMG!) but saying that "anyone can ask for this to happen" is only going to open Pandorra's box so please don't, kTHX?

So yeah, I had a couple more things to say but now I'm bored and really this post is already far too long as is. :marathon:

Anyway, continue fighting for my entertainment now, please. :)

I moved the thread just to get Tex out because he was acting like a rotten little child and the women wanted it done. I already answered about his hypothetical racial threads.

What do you want me to admit? I have the power to arbitrarily move threads for whatever reason I see fit. My job isn't to let people get away with shit because of supposed loophole. My job is to ensure that this board runs as smoothly as possible. Sometimes I get a little zealous, I'll admit that. I shouldn't have warned Tex, but I removed that warning. Mrs. Albert had every justification for removing those posts because they were disruptive to the thread and you all know it.

All that happened here was that a few posters were behaving like little shits and the staff has stopped them and let a decent thread grow. Aside from TK, I can't see where on the net such an action would be so vociferously condemned...

You really think that name calling in the Help Desk is the right answer? And I'm not complaining about the warning you gave me, in fact I never have brought it up or told anyone but the people in chat that night. The fact that you can't think of any place on the net besides TK where people would be upset by your unnecessary moderation speaks well for WF, and poorly for you. You've developed an obvious pattern of bad decision making here at WF. Seems like every time there is a complaint about moderator action you are somehow mixed up in it. Perhaps you should reevaluate the way you do your job.

I agree that it would be too much work to put the thread back together and move it back to the red room, but that doesn't mean you should open the door for all kinds of discrimination in future threads. Just use this as the example of the time you made a mistake and don't let it happen again.

I know you weren't complaining about that?

Anyway, I'm not really sold on the racial threads. What I'll probably do is ignore them all from now on, and advise the moderators to ignore any non-gender related segregation issues.

You're half way there, but I'd like to see a WF free of all racial and gender discrimination. Call me old fashion, but I think of women as equals who can handle us men just fine on their own. They don't need special treatment.

And this is the attitude that I've been talking about. You're not God, you're just some punk kid with too much authority on a tiny little message board.

    Wow, such a mature attitude.

Too bad it ignores the plain and simple fact that Chris, Lanzman, and Tamar are tasked by Elwood to make decisions for them, and unless they are absolutely wrong, he's going to stand by them.

So shape up and quit whining.

I see that you'll never conceed that you were wrong and I'm not going to keep going in circles trying to open your eyes. You are bad at your job, I can't fix you. If others want to keep trying they are welcome to it. All I am saying is that when you are ready you can lock the thread because I have nothing new to add and we aren't going to come to an agreement. Best of luck.

Tex, while I agree that the thread probably didn't need to be splintered off, do you think going into the thread now and purposely being a dick is gonna help your case?

There's a big difference between this and this.

Not that this justfies the usual "I'm a mod, so I'm always right" attitude from certain people. :garamet:

    Oh boy.

Ok, first of all...Administrators do not need anyone's permission to do their jobs. That includes moving any threads they need to, when they need to, without input from the thread's creator. We try to be as accomodating as possible in that regard, but it is not necessary.

That said, I disagreed with Chris' choice to move the thread. Personally, I think the ladies should have opened a new one in The Green Room themselves and let the RR one die on it's own.

Obviously, this didn't happen. Yes, it created a bit of a mess, but it really isn't an important thread full of rich discussion that needs saving. It is an unimportant parody of the Men's thread that got blown way out of proportion and taken way too seriously. It is also an action that really can't be undone.

Mrs. A...you can't really say she was abusing her power. Once the thread was moved into the Green Room, it was entirely in her rights to split out the trolling posts.

I don't think anyone really believes this is truly based on any discrimination or sexism in general. At least, I hope not. From what I can tell it was what I said earlier...a parody gone way too serious.

Of all the things I hate to see happen to threads, I can't decide which is worse, locking or splitting. Now the thread in question makes no sense.

What Chris did was a noble thing to try and let the ladies have some semblence of good discussion, and it was a gentlemanly thing to do. But Red Room threads have always been disrupted. Liberal threads get disrupted by conservatives, conservative threads get disrupted by liberals, USA threads get disrupted by the rest of the world, etc. Yet none of those were split off or moved.

In doing this, we run into the danger of deciding which stuff is a "disruption" and which isn't. If I were to start a thread on "How Great Libertarianism Is - Only Libertarians Allowed", and Liet or Packard came into it and started acting like total assholes, would I get a split and delete?

If someone wants polite discussion, there is a room for that. If you ask for a civil thread and it gets hijacked, the way it should be handled would be to start a new one in the Green Room and tell people to move the discussion over there. That way, you avoid people complaining about their replies being moved, their answers being erased, etc. And you avoid all the shitstorm that ensues.

I don't think compounding one bad situation with another one will resolve anything.

Let's just leave well enough alone and hopefully something like this won't happen again.

I think it's pretty clear that if you really don't want disruption in your thread, the RR is probably not the place to post it.
