McCain/Huckabee: Conservatives would hate the President and moderates would hate the Vice President. Talk about easy pickings for Obama/Richardson.

    Where's the uncommited option?

I voted Obama in this poll but since the Michigan Primary was all goofy this year, I voted uncommited.

No. Conservatives would hate both the President and the Vice President, while moderates would hate only the Vice President.

I think you may be overestimating how homogeneous conservatives are. And please don't say "anyone who doesn't agree with me isn't a real conservative."

Well, by that line of reasoning, a lot of conservatives would not hate the President, either, then. I thought you were talking about general trends.
I don't need you to put words in my mouth, thank you.

I wasn't talking about anything, actormike made that post. My point is, this board seems to have a different definition of conservatism than the majority of folks who call themselves conservatives. And while I am not a fan of letting a majority dictate the meaning of terms, I'm also not a fan of having terms be ambiguous.

You're welcome. I know you didn't need me to say it, you could've said it yourself (and in fact you did make the same implication in the first part of your post). It's okay though, I was simply asking that you not say it. You are, of course, free to say what you will.

I'm continuously amused by attempts people are making to try and fit all the candidates into the two party system.

Of the current five, Romney's the closest thing I can think of as a "traditional" Republican, and even that's a stretch. It's the year of the moderate and all we do is bitch.

What is there to do on a forum besides bitch? I guess we could piss and/or moan instead, but that's splitting hairs.

It's nationwide. People are calling into NPR, idiots on cable are spewing twice the vitriol.

True. And that gives the lie to the old saw that if only the parties would name moderates, instead of those who are too far left or too far right, there wouldn't be as much polarization of the electorate.

Personally, I would love to see an election between Obama and a true conservative who is as nice a guy as Obama is. Then, people would have a true choice. They wouldn't be abstaining because even though they like the politics they can't stand the personally (Clinton, McCain...), and they wouldn't be saying "Six of one, half a dozen of the other."

Whichever way it went, it would be a true election. What is shaping up is the choice between real bad and marginally worse.

I didn't vote. I'm a Registered Republican, and I didn't see any point in voting for either McCain or Romney.

Uh, no. McCain is about as moderate as a raging case of syphilis. He's heterodox on some issues, and on some issues he's more right-wing-loony than classical conservative, but he's about as moderate as the temperature of a bath in boiling oil. He's a bigger warmonger than anyone in the Bush administration, he's as anti-choice as they come in senators, he's fully embraced voodoo economics, he's pretty much the only conservative in the Republican party on torture, and he wouldn't even think about appointing a judge who wasn't in the Federalist Society. You might as well call Dennis Kucinich moderate because he flirted with Ron Paul as call John McCain moderate.
