The Pledge Of Allegiance was written by Francis Bellamy in 1892. You'd think that someone running for high office would have at least a vague idea of when it was written, right? I mean, it has been at last a minor issue over the past few years, hasn't it? Well, it looks like Ms. Palin had no clue as to when it was written. Check out her response to a candidate questionnaire for the Alaska 2006 gubernatorial race:
Yep, sorry, why would this be of great importance? Is she going to be passing a law that changes/gets rid of the pledge. Doubtful, the supreme court on the other hand........might want to do some research.
It's not like that was an on the spot question. If I'm correct, that's from a questionaire she filled out and answered. You'd think she'd take the time to make sure all of her basic facts in something like that would be correct. Lazy ignorance is the worst kind.
I imagine being governor means you've got more important things to do than answer trivia questions and certainly more important things on your mind than this...
This phrase was in use before the pledge. Anyone with a cursory knowledge of the Gettysburg Address, for example, would be familiar with it: The, there was Washington's address to troops around Staten Island: It's ok though, that you don't know this. Leftist policies have failed our schools for a long time.
Parsing...then the answer to the question is horribly written, because it sure sounds like she is trying to connect the Pledge to the Founding Fathers.
Like it or not, the use of the Pledge and the inclusion of "under God" is still at the very least a minor issue in politics today. That Palin cannot speak intelligently on the issue, especially during an "open book" assignment, is some cause for concern.
It looks like she's connecting the "Under God" to the Founding fathers, which Poodle of all people has just proven to be a valid connection.
Of course, the inclusion of the phrase was not a minor issue. It was done during the 1950s because of the whole "Red Scare" stupidity. Senator Homer Ferguson is the one who brought up the idea and introduced the bill to Congress to add it to the Pledge. Seems he thought that the phrase "under God" would be a magic talisman that would prevent evil commies from being able to say the Pledge.
I expect more things like this to come out, and more denials by conservatives that any of it is important because she has 5 kids, hunts, is pretty and pro-life. As long as she checks all of the boxes off it doesn't matter. She could be discovered to be a fembot from a deep underground fembot factory and they still wouldn't care. They would just say " Wow, I wonder if I can get that upgrade???"
Because all of us on here who say that have always been for McCain and are ultra conservative. Get over yourself Vandy. Not all us who don't see it as a big problem are conservatives that don't see problems in the republican party. I don't particularly like McCain and not sure if I'm going to vote for him. I know now that it won't be Bama, and we don't get the third party candidates here, so maybe I won't vote presidential, but hey.
Basically, yeah. It shows to be true, with evidence to back it up, something she doesn't want to be true.
There are way, way bigger problems with the Republican ticket than this non-starter. The more vandy and flashy hook up on trivia, the more convinced I am that they're really desperate and the better I feel about Obama having to finish up his Senate term and go back to washing cars in Chicago in a couple of years.
Which is odd, because although it was a Poodle post, it was actually very easy to make sense of. I simply assumed you were confused because you aren't very bright.
Because, as always, everything you post is pointless. That is, unless it's to troll someone by attempting (and failing miserably) to post their personal information. And you couldn't even get that right.
I don't expect her to know when it was written. Though I do expect her to know "under god" was added later as a response to godless communists.
