The new coloring books (as well as paint by numbers and connect the dots books) aimed at adults seems to be the big thing now. Book stores and even small retailers are bursting with them.

Why don't we have any Star Trek themed ones? I've been saying we needed more Star Trek related materials like this aimed at younger potential viewers for some time. But with these types of books the new big thing, we should definitely have Star Trek ones for everyone.

What good is a coloring book that will become a collectors item? They're only good for one use.

Believe it or not, I agree. I get why people collect action figures, but if I have a toy, by damn I'm playing with it. When I was a kid, I played with my toys until they were worn out, broken, and beyond any repair. That's not to say I was careless with my toys, we didn't have a lot of money, but they got the playtime they deserved.

If I buy a coloring book, I'm coloring in it.

ETA: I did find this: http://startrekanimated.com/tas_coloringbook.html
It's not the same, but if you want to color some Star Trek stuff, that's a good way to do it, and it's free. It only costs you the ink and paper you need to print it! :)

Got to agree there. I wanted to play with the toys. It's why it was made in the first place. To be played with.

And actually I am surprised that there aren't themed coloring books for adults out there such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and other stuff.

The first ones I saw just a few months ago were just supposed to help people relax and destress. But now I see all sorts of themed ones like Bible ones. I'm fascinated by the technical aspects of Star Trek so I have a bunch of uncolored drawings of various bridge designs saved that I plan on coloring myself.

My mother bought me one of those adult "stress relieving" colouring books for Christmas. Did nothing. Loads of bollocks if you ask me. Colouring books are for kids.

Didn't President Eisenhower love paint by number sets because he loved to paint but had no actual artistic talent?

I'm nearly 49 but there are all sorts of toys and games that I still enjoy a great deal. One reason I wished we had more kids.

Why don't they make digital coloring books for Microsoft Paint so you just touch each area with the little bucket of paint to fill it in?

Adult colouring books of this nature might be good for elderly folks to keep their minds active. As well as their hands. Thinking of nursing &/or assisted living homes, rehabilitation centers, among other like places.

gturner has a good idea for this re: the computer!

I have Star Trek glassware, that I was able to make myself.

Dayton's comment to the glassware above is below.

I would have to say that Star Trek glassware is was cooler than a coloring book.

I used to have a great Trek coffee mug that looked just like the ones from TUC. Unfortunately it broke. :garamet:

I keep a Starfleet Academy mug in my desk at work. I've had it for 20 years.

Was it like the one Sulu broke? Or a different design, the only one I can remember is the one Sulu broke.

I don't know if they actually were onscreen, but they had the same design as the Sulu cup.

Pfaltzgraff sold them, along with dinnerware around the time that the movie was released. I remember seeing the display at a mall department store in the town where I lived back then and I bought one of the coffee mugs by itself.

I think they also sold an Excelsior teacup like Sulu broke.

Ok, I remember those. I wanted to get a set when they came out, but never got around to it. Those have a similar but nor identical design that Sulu's cup did.

When I get around to it, I am going to make a set of coffee mugs with this design. I'll have to make the gold color a bit brighter though. I want to have a set of four, two with this design.

    upload_2016-3-24_1-56-52.png

    And two with this design.

    upload_2016-3-24_1-57-30.png

Luckily I'm pretty good friends with a guy that has a print shop, and I've helped him out several times with work he's had come in. He'll let me make the mugs at no cost, but I wouldn't feel right about that. But paying him at least cost would still mean I can make a set for about 15-20 bucks.

My point for this thread though is basically that Star Trek seems to be always behind the marketplace by a big margin when it comes to marketing and licensing opportunities.

Why is that? It makes no sense as it it costing them money.

It's a well known fact that the movie-related coloring book was directly responsible for Slumdog Millionaire's Oscar win.

It can be therapeutic, but only for people who enjoy that sort of activity. It's a mistake to buy "calming" gifts for anyone unless you know them very well - mothers do have a tendency to assume you like the same things they do (or, more accurately, that they know best).

Some find gardening therapeutic. To me, it's a chore. Likewise washing the car.

I beat the crap out of a buncha Trigon cultists just now in DC Universe Online whilst glugging Sauvignon Blanc. Now that's therapeutic. Likewise enjoy cooking... gonna have the rest of last night's fish pie in an hour or so. Nom.
