It reads like someone desperately trying to justify a win in a meaningless contest.

I like Lost. I like Heroes. They're on different nights. I see no reason to make them compete.

I also was not wildly disappointed by the finale.

I may do a paragraph-by-paragraph dissection of this garbled mess, but I wanted to get my initial thoughts out first

Edit: Ok, I take it back.

No need for a longer post, the entirety of this "essay" is an attempt for this guy to paint people who like "Lost" as literary scholars, and those who watch "Heroes" as mindless simpletons. On that basis alone, the whole essay is garbage. Utter garbage.

And now for the Phantomcratic response:

I was parked in front of the tube for the season finale of Heroes.

I don't even know what night Lost is on. :)

I haven't watched much of Lost this season. I've watched every episode of Heroes. It's all very well having an excellent finale, but if you've lost a good few of your viewers along the way because you've had a patchy season, it doesn't really count for a great deal. IMO

The writer fails to note that Lost has lost viewers because of all the plotlines it dropped or wasted, like the emphasis on the tail survivors, or the emphasis on the Jack-Kate-Sawyer triangle. That it lost viewers because it turned Locke from a strong lead into a weak-willed, wishy-washy whiner pushing a button all day (A turn even the actor vocally criticized) and focused on issues no one cared about.

Heroes, like Lost, has had a stellar first season. We'll see if the second season can match up to that first in quality.

At least on Heroes, Things Happened.

Lost devolved into an existential wankfest.

Lost: watched the first 4-5, and maybe about 60% of the first season, seen about 10% since then. Its far too far up its own arse.
Heroes: watched every ep avidly and thought the seasons end was decent, if a bit simple

    I watch them both.
    I enjoy them both.
Lost lived up to its name for much of last season.
    Heroes never disappointed me.
I couldn't get past the first couple of paragraphs of that pathetic artiucle.

"It’s part of the show’s basic modus operandi: where Lost has faith in your intelligence and stamina, Heroes knows that its audience isn’t that bright. Never mind Lost’s ambitious literary and philosophical references "

Got right here and knew the rest of the article would be bullshit.

I will say that I was let down by the Heroes ending. I was hoping for an action packed fight from start to finish. But the rest of the season was awesome. I can't wait for season two nor can I wait for the season one DVD's!

Lost I never got into. Nothing against people that like it I just wasn't in to it. I think what threw me was the fact anyone survived at all from the plane crash. Call me crazy but I couldn't let go of seeing the tail end of the plane coming off and yet people survived the crash. I thought it was going to be some stupid show that lasts five episodes. Like Drive. ;)

Lost is utter dreck. I couldn't even follow the special one-hour 'Here's everything you need to know to understand LOST'.

Its an island, in the middle of nowhere, with a smoke-monster, a small village, at least one plane-load of people, and while nobody can get off, guest stars show up and leave. Lost doesn't just insult people's intelligence, it rapes their intelligence's parents and burns its house down!

Lost is all build-up and never explains anything, they just keep killing off people in a semi-drammatic fashion. THEN, when they realize 'oh fuck, we're running out of people on this island!' they pull out new characters on this "deserted" island.

And why is that fat guy still fat?!

Gilligan's island isn't supposed to be realistic, otherwise the Howells would've died out after half a season.

Lost, on the other hand, prides itself on 'gritty realism'.

    Your loss.

Heroes is to LOST as Babylon 5 was to Trek, and as Wizard was to Overstreet. Bab 5 was the show that geeks, feeling a need to appear too cool for Trek, embraced to demonstrate their supposed indie street cred and assert their alleged independence from the Trek herd. Same for Heroes, a hollow, pale X-Men retread just half a step removed from Liefeld's Youngblood.

Bullshit. Point me to the interview where the producers claim gritty realism is their goal. Smoke monsters isn't exactly realism.
