Expecting the usual "It's a garamet thread...must neg-rep and run away!" (shout-out to @Captain X), but something for the grownups to ponder and possibly discuss: http://www.newser.com/story/211760/why-the-us-leads-the-world-in-mass-shootings.html Cue the usual "All academics are steenkin' libruls," etc. and "obvious troll thread is obvious; therefore we won't participate" and ...go... Ah, @Captain X, !
None of those countries are massive continent sized multi-cultural empires! Correlation is not causation! What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand? You are a gun grabber!
I'm kinda surprised to see the Swiss and Finns topping the list besides an obvious shithole like Yemen, honest.
Well, now that we've covered all the talking points, I imagine this thread will just drop off the first page.
Thanks for the info. Of course the odds of you (or any one of us) being a victim might be .000005 percent in the US versus .000001 percent in England, Germany, Japan, Australia, etc. So personally it's no sweat off my sack one way or the other. I bet we have more fatal auto accidents in the US than Bhutan does too.
Except when the Europeans have a mass shooting event, such as 1914-1918, when the odds of being shot goes up a million fold.
I do NOT think that this is a troll thread. I am sure you honestly and sincerely want a real conversation on this. But this tactic you use, illustrated by the quote above, it makes me not want to discuss anything with you. At all. Please consider that. Let the "other side" say what they are going to say.
I'm still not sure what garamet and others want. Do you really think reducing the number of guns in circulation is a viable solution in the United States?
Yes, because it worked in Australia! And they hate guns too, which goes without saying. I think their efforts are cute and entertaining, like a kids school play or something - if the play were written by a blind retarded circus monkey on crack. No offense to the monkeys of course.
I want to make sure that fewer of the psychologically unstable have access to guns. Let's start there. The fact that when you so much as mention this on WF, certain members go suggests that they are personally terrified that they would not pass any such screening says more than anything I could say.
Yeah. Considering Australia can be described accurately as a big, dry continent with half a dozen cities sprinkled around the coast.
And people including myself have outlined in the past the serious difficulty of defining "psychologically unstable".
Oh! Oh! I know the answer to this one. Is it because at least half of you are batshit crazy paranoid motherfuckers who fetishize firearms?
Frankly, the psychologically unstable have more need for a gun than regular folks because they're being stalked by unknown and certainly nefarious entities, agents, and demons. Just because society considers you crazy doesn't mean you should be left defenseless against demons and monsters.
Funny every single one of us WF gun owners can pass a gun background check......or we wouldn't have the guns in the first place. We might have Grandpappy's shotgun already, but any newer gun recently purchased would require a background check. Now what I would like to see is a background check for ammo purchases. It would add - what? five minutes? - to your Walmart shopping.
It happened successfully in many countries, but I don't think it will work for your country. Not so long as there are Americans living in it. You love guns almost as much as life itself, guns are a symbol of 'freedom' or 'greatness' or some other pointless attribute you have imbued them with. Even anti-gun people in America are obsessed by guns.
Circulation restrictions might reduce the attacks, but it doesn't restrict the glorification of gun or the political second amendment shite.
And therein lies while it not the guns themselves, but the cultural attitude. Finally, someone else to suppose what I've been saying for ages.
Well, if you were to use WF as your parameter, I'd say "yes, you're right." And, while I haven't traveled extensively in the South, that sure as hell seems to be one of the parameters. So, as of now, despite the fact that I've always lived in the more civilized portions of the U.S., I'd say this time, at least, you've got it right.
Yeah, but you guys live in a country where The Gun is not a Yang Worship Word, therefore your opinions can be automatically - pardon the expression - shot down.
