That's WAY too long a letter for any politician to read. At best, an aide will give him a one-sentence summary, such as "some twat doesn't like Maher and thinks we should return his money. Women, right?"

Any orgainzation with the word "concerned" in it makes me run the other way.

Also, if politicans returned every dollar from every donor who said or did something that someone else objected to, then we'd never get any of those delightful attack ads, because they'd all be broke.

An aide who'd give a summary like that probably wouldn't bother with a one sentence summary either.

She may not be a representative of all women, but she's certainly got quite a few in her corner.

Certainly as much as any other who chooses to speak up with their opinions.

This story is retarded. First, why would Obama return money to appease a group of individuals who have no intention of voting for him in the first place? Second, while both Limbaugh and Maher are misogynists, Limbaugh's actions were far more egregious due to Sandra Fluke not being a member of the media, a public official, or public figure. Third, it's ridiculous to compare Limbaugh and Maher, one's a conservative talk show host, and the other is a comedian.

    That's interesting.

To think there's something special about Limbaugh's job is pretty funny in itself. They're both entertainers, neither one to be taken more or less seriously than the other, IMO.

    This.

The people who sent in petitions to advertisers to remove their advertising dollars from promoting Rush Limbaugh's airtime may or may not have every intention of buy products from those advertisers.

    That's free market.

If Obama says "I'm using my position of authority to have Bill Maher's programming interrupted" that's censorship.

Regardless of how serious you think they should be taken, there is a massive difference in perception between the two for most people. I don't know of anyone who takes Bill Maher seriously as a political commentator, but I know more than a few people who stand with mouths agape to eat up whatever shit Rush Limbaugh squeezes out of his fat ass.

Obama made it an issue when he spoke about Rush's remarks about Fluke and how because he didn't want anyone to talk about his daughters like that, then takes a million from a guy who calls women cunts how dose he explain that to his girls?.."I thinks it's wrong to call women bad names unless you give me a million dollars then I don't care".

PLus let's stop this bs about calling Fluke a Private citizen the minute she appeared at that staged event at the capital she became a public figure.

Do you really want to set the precedent where it's okay to badmouth people merely because Congress invited them to testify? And even still, it doesn't matter, because that kind of language wouldn't be tolerated against a public figure either.

If Maher isn't taken seriously why is he invited to all the major news programs to give his views, why do so many powerful people in Government appear on his show why do Dems seek him to help raise money for their campaigns?clearly people do take him seriously.

What happen is his remarks about Palin and other women complicate Dem attacks on Rush and their stand on respecting women.

But does that say something about him or about them? Further, I'd also argue that it's probably a sign you haven't heard from everyone who thinks Maher is some kind of genius for every word he utters. You know, the same kind of groveling fealty Rush gets from his more rabid fans.

Just because "you don't know" of it doesn't mean it's not happening in some form or another. I'm betting people look to Maher in the same type of way they look to Rush because they're both entertainers and people will hang on every word entertainers let loose with.

Oh, right, I forgot when dealing with you that failure to comment on something equals tacit approval.

Fine, fine, I FIND THAT TO BE A BAD THING TOO, WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO LIST ALL THE OTHER THINGS I FIND BAD TO BE A REFERENCE FOR YOU FOR LATER?

    I DON'T LIKE EITHER PARTY
BARACK OBAMA DOES THINGS THAT ARE DUMB
    I'M AGAINST GUN CONTROL

Of course you ignore the part of the post that's inconvenient for you. The part where Obama lied. You know the bit about how he cared about his people refer to his daughters. The ones Maher calls cunts.

C'mon, there isn't a real expectation here that the money will be given back or donated to charity, is there?

Politicians love other people's money, they thrive on it. They don't care what the person who gave them money said, or what kind of double standards are at work. It's a million fuckin' dollars to help guarantee 4 more years of power.

Obama's merely another in a long, long line of people such as this and he certainly won't be the last.

Does that make it right? If you have those expectations, then probably not. But that's the reality of the political system, set up as it is. So while people like mlong are complaining and expecting for some reason that it be returned, Obama's having a good laugh and spending that cash.

Sucks, but it is what it is.

I stopped reading when I saw the word misogynist to describe Bill Maher. Conservatives have been on that kick since the party urged the two biggest lunatics on the planet to run for office and they just so happen to be women... Them being Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin. Maher deigned to point that out, Hannity got his panties in a twist and here we are. :dayton:

Did he say those things before or after his affair with Ann Coulter? Because he might have just been emulating her skills at character assassination.

Ah, so you're not objecting to Maher's behavior, just to the fact that he's more rich and famous than you are.

Never said they didn't... I never accused anyone of misogyny for opposing someone on political stance though.
