I'm not sure Fox has as much influence over Trumps base as it did a month or two ago.

This is all anecdotal, so for what it's worth...

    1. Several Trumpster friends of mine are convinced that Disney bought Fox News, and nothing I can say will convince them otherwise. I can't give them proof, because they only believe bloggers who say otherwise.

    2. Related to 1. Anything the "mainstream news" says is the exact opposite of the "truth". Remember day before yesterday when Pence said that Trump had called Erdogan to demand an immediate ceasefire?

Well, get a load of this and this. Check out the comments. It's been two days, and reality hasn't sunk in yet.

I do love how the reps seem to want the entire process stopped because they are obstructing.

It is like walking into an arraignment and saying you innocent because there is no jury and you deserve a jury trial so the process is wrong and you are not guilty. Really, the procedure is wrong because we are gathering evidence and presenting that in order to solidify the case and determine if there is enough to impeach.

The right wing gets more absurd every day with their attempts to defend their glorious leader who has openly admitted to multiple crimes, and even has performed some in the view of the public. Even his personal lawyer is saying his phone has evidence of crimes and is admitting to his own crimes. If this was a court they would have already seized all of the records from Trump and Rudy, and probably arrested them and thrown them in jail as flight risks given their foreign contacts and wealth.

Yup. In 1973 the House did not have the subpoena power it does today, as per its rules. A successful "official" impeachment inquiry vote would mean nothing legally, and a failure would just give Republicans a new talking point. There *may* need to be a floor vote at some point to have the Judiciary Committee draw up articles of impeachment, but it's not clear that's necessary (unless the rules changed since last session, when impeachment articles were submitted to the floor by individual congresscritters).

ETA: That said, I don't like the impression this leaves that impeachment is a leaderless effort xor that Pelosi is micromanaging it.
