Gotta love Axelrat's response here: "We investigated ourselves and cleared ourselves of any wrongdoing." Yeah, I don't think that's quite how it works, David....

As for Oilbama....poor thing....looks like all of Humpty Dumpty's walls are crashing down on him...

If they didn't actually say "in exchange for dropping out of the race" or allude to Specter in the conversation, no matter how obvious it was to Sestak that that was what they were doing, skilled enough liars... sorry, lawyers... will maintain that it was totally innocent. And a judge and jury would agree.

    :notthisshit:

There's not even an allegation of wrongdoing involved here. Politicians get offered administration jobs. If they take them they quit pursuing other government jobs--in the case of Congressmen and Senators and people running for those jobs, people who routinely get offered administration jobs, this is Constitutionally mandated ("no person holding any office under the United States, shall be a member of either House during his continuance in office."). It happens. It happens hundreds of times in each presidential administration. Only severely mentally deranged ODS sufferers would think there's an allegation here, much less anything to investigate.

Every administration job offer to a Congressman, Senator, or someone running for those offices is made with not the mere hope but the absolute imperviously true knowledge that acceptance of the job offer will mean leaving office and quitting a run for office.

In any event, even the allegation that the Secretary of the Navy job was offered in the hopes that Sestak wouldn't primary Specter--which isn't an allegation of wrongdoing--is, in this case, absurd on it's face:

Evidence that it was the Secretary of the Navy job that he was offered?

The conclusion of the NY Times article I posted above answers this question for you, fuckwit:

You know it's a sad day when self-appointed progressive hero Lietard invokes the reasoning of "well it's business as usual" to rationalize corruption.

Seriously, either own up to your supposed values, or shut the fuck up and get out of the way, Liet.

To me the matter rests pretty much with Sestak now. He's basically the only one who might be able to explain the details around this matter (since it's not likely that the WH will talk, as seen by Gibbs aka Fudd's refusal to even discuss the matter any further).

So far Sestak has not said anything, but here's hoping Joe will elaborate on his initial comments sometime soon.

I am not calling for impeachment obviously, but I do think the matter should be investigated/explored (and not just by interested parties who obviously would exonerate themselves from any wrongdoing). There should be some neutral evaluation of this matter.

That darn Dick Durbin, why is he doing this? Apparently he didn't get the memo from Liet that this matter had already been settled.

Sounds like Durbin is telling Sestak to "put up or shut up." Not an unreasonable request. If you're going to allege that you were offered a job as a political bribe, you ought to be willing to provide the details.

    Liet is a moron.

Sestak opened his mouth and said he was offered a high-profile job within the administration in exchange for him dropping out of the race against Specter. That is what he said. He didn't say anything that could be vague about it. He came straight out and said it.

You read that Liet you cock-sucking stupid excuse making mother fucker? That right there if true is a felony. Why? Because he was running for the office of the Senate for his state. Had he not been running for election then it would have been perfectly legal for the White House to make such an offer. Of course if he wasn't running there would not have been a need for them to make an offer to him in the first place.

He was offered the job by someone in the White House. The White House supported Specter for the Senate run and were against Sestak. Why? Who the fuck knows. Sestak certainly had the credentials and was in not a turncoat like Specter (you can't trust turncoats even if they are working for your side). For whatever reason the White House wanted Specter to win and they wanted Sestak to get out of the race. Hence the job offer.

Now of course Sestak either figured it out on his own or someone asked him, "Dude! What the fuck??" and he stopped talking.

The White House has admitted they talked to Sestak and says it did nothing wrong yet it won't go into details.

So now we have a situation here.

If Sestak is lying he's broken ethics rules/laws, hurt his chances of winning the election against Toomey, and has hurt the Democrat party by bringing this too light.

If Sestak is telling the truth then the White House is covering up their illegal actions and is trying to get the press to "trust them" and to sweep this under the rug.

Unfortunately for the White House the media is getting pissed off at being treated like shit and they are turning on this administration. (IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME THEY WOKE UP!)

Even Democrats themselves are starting to demand answers on this. They are afraid that if true this will taint them in November even worse then they are already tainted. (I don't see how that's possible but apparently they must think so )

Is this a impeachable offense? No. Why? Because Obama will have a whole lot of people fall on their swords swearing up and down that they acted on their own.

However it still damages the White House, Obama and the Democrats.

Obama is going face a 2012 campaign where his opponents, and I think one of them will be Hillary, will tear every promise he made in 2008 apart. It will be easy as all they will have to do is point at everything he's done during his term.

Oh and only a handful of people in the White House could make such an offer and have it stick. That handful starts with Rahm Emmanuel and ends with Barack Obama. It's not a very long list. ;)

It's too late for Sestak to shut up.

Cat's out of the bag on this one......

No one is going to buy Sestak coming back out and saying he "heard the White House wrong" or that he was flat out lying.

It would kill his Senate run.

Sestak has to put up or watch his political career sink like the Titanic.

Oh and the AG is not going to investigate this or appoint a special counsel. He's a scum bag.

You give way too much credit. If this, as alleged, is a political bribe, then so is every other job offered by every President in history to any Congressman, Senator, or anyone considering running for those offices. They all had to resign and forego their races to take jobs.

    Good Lord you moron......

Sestak was in the middle of a campaign primary race against Specter.

IT'S AGAINST FEDERAL LAW TO TRY AND INTERFERE IN A RACE BY BRIBING ONE SIDE TO DROP OUT OF THE RACE.

If Sestak wasn't running for the Democrat Senate nomination it would have been perfectly legal for a job offer to him. It would have even been perfectly legal to offer the job to him to prevent him from starting up a campaign. However since he was in the middle of a campaign it was and is illegal to make such offers.

Once the game starts you can't make job offers.

Here's hoping Joe Sestak does. Otherwise the Republicans will dog Sestak (I can see the ads now: Why is Sestak covering for Obama??) all the way to the November elections.

That said, that still doesn't explain why the White House, when they had pledged about a million times to be the most transparent administration in history, is refusing to comment on this at all beyond the tired refrain of "we looked into it, and everything is fine." Putting aside the "don't look at me, I'm just the President" richness of the comment that "it's all on Sestak", shouldn't the White House just do one better, follow its own rhetoric, and just lead by example?

After all, if there's nothing to see here, then there's no harm in explaining this with a bit more detail to the public. The public is stupid after all, we need things explained to us.

Also, another Democrat asks for more information....this time from the White House.

Why would anyone be surprised at this?

Look at all the bribes and deals of a questionable nature Obama was making to pass his shitty healthcare legislation.

Offering Sestak a job here would seem to fit the M.O. and since Obama always gets away with the things he does, I doubt he thought twice about the fact it's illegal.

I'd imagine even a mid-campaign job offer would technically be legal, but going to the guy and saying "Hey, if you drop out we'll give you a job" would not be.

Of course it's the former thats's being alleged. No one's even claiming that Obama said "drop out of the race and I'll consider giving you a job." What's being alleged is that Obama said "here's a job if you want it." There's some insinuation that Obama also said "by the way, read the fucking Constitution before you take the job."

And, of course, the job Obama is alleged to have offered already had a nominee in place by the time the offer is alleged to have been made. In other words, the offer didn't happen.

Here are Joe Sestak's comments on what happened back in February. Note Larry Kane's question: "Were you ever offered a federal job to get out of this race?"

I'm assuming that by "wrongdoing," Liet meant "illegality."

The section that you quoted proves that there was no wrongdoing in that sense. The person quoted called offering a job "business as usual."

While it's certainly (if true) craven and sleazy business as usual, it does not seem to violate any law to offer someone a job unless or until that offer is made explicit that it is a bribe.

I am not sure how the fact that appointment is the way someone gets to be secretary of the Navy is relevant.

The section you quoted doesn't prove anything against Obama or his administration.

    Let's break it down:

The first portion says, in layman's terms, "Anyone who asks for or gets money as a political contribution, money for their personal profit or something valuable in exchange for promising someone help getting an appointment has committed a crime."

Even assuming someone from the Obama administration said explicitly "Drop out and you have your pick of federal jobs," they wouldn't seem to violate this portion of the law you're quoting. This hypothetical person didn't get money at all. And the concession from the race would probably not be considered a "thing of value." Traditionally, a thing of value would be something like trips, gold, jewelry...something you can put a dollar amount on.

Similarly, the second portion says, in paraphrase, "Anyone who asks for or gets any thing of value to help someone get a federal job by passing along someone's name or by requiring a headhunting fee has also committed a crime."

The same thing about a concession being unlikely to be a "thing of value" would apply here as well.

And, of course, the chances that that was said are approximately 0%. Certainly that's not even what being alleged. Sestak alleged he was offered a specific job.

Concession from the race can't be considered a thing of value. Everyone who takes a job with the administration by necessity quits his or her previous job and quits and election campaigns he's involved in. An interpretation of the law that would criminalize every job offer ever made isn't a credible interpretation. It's nonsense. It's gibberish. It's, quite frankly, psychotic bullshit. Don't treat it as any more serious a proposition than the proposition that men frolicked with dinosaurs or the moon's made of green cheese.

If there was a job offer or not, how is that illegal? Because they're Democrats? Is Sestak unqualified in any way to perform the duties of this rumored job or was he being considered for the job precisely because he was qualified for it and the party wanted to support Spector in PA? Were the words "Spector", "PA", "Primary" or "job" ever mentioned to Sestak with regards to the job? How is this any different than Republicans actively advising their member to register a s Democrats to vote to prolong the Democratic Primary in 2008?

You can support this investigation if you want, but you're going to waste a lot of time and money on another partisan witch hunt.

It was indeed interesting to see Obama's first press conference in 10 months! Looks like Gloriabama is finally ready for her close up, Mr. Demille!

    [yt=Sunset Boulevard]eOLypkY8LMc[/yt]

As for the Sestak matter, the statement that "an answer is forthcoming" is one Fibbs has been saying for months now. Perhaps some are unaware of the history of this matter, but the media has been trying to get answers from the WH since February. Each time, Fibbs has said "Still working on it, let me get back to you." Just how much time do they need to address this?

Anyway, expect a response tomorrow --one thing I've noticed about Obama is that his administration tends to like the Friday afternoon bad news dump so it is forgotten over the weekend. With tomorrow being Friday, and a holiday weekend here in the US no less, I think we'll get our answer tomorrow. :jayzus:
