My desktop doesn't have the capability for wireless. What's the best way to go about adding it? Currently it's using my laptop for a wireless connection.

Should I get something to put into my computer? Can I, or does it have to be built into something? Should I get a USB dongle?

I would (and did) buy a PCI or PCI-e wireless card

How do I hook that up, and how much does that cost?

Probably about $15 and you just turn the computer off, take the side off, put the card into the slot (carefully, make sure its the right slot), then put the PC back together

Well, that sure sounds easy. And my motherboard guaranteed has a slot? I don't know too much about building computers. (I was gonna learn with this one then got lazy.)

No, you need to first open the computer and look inside to see which slots of which type you have free, then decide which wireless card to buy.
You motherboard manual will help with this, it should have a diagram of what you will see.

Thanks! I found the manual for my motherboard online, and I'll try and figure this out.

I suggest going with Elwood's suggestion. I don't see the point of ripping open your desktop just to install a wireless card when a USB version will suffice. :)

That works just as well? I have an old USB dongle for wireless, and that is super slow.

It supports Wireless-N up to 150Mbps.

I'm assuming something plugged in through a PCI port would be better than something plugged in through USB 2.0, but what do I know? That's why I'm asking.

The USB port can handle it just fine. An internal PCI card is just overkill.

Yeah just go with a wireless USB stick. I'm using one myself, they're cheap and you can keep it when you upgrade computers. ;)
