I like how it's right out in the open like that and managed to escape detection all this time. Presumably by means of that camouflage greenery it's got on, so that it would look like non-descript landscape from space.

Those Mayans sure were sneaky! :naht:

Its strange how these guys were able to make Pyramids just like the Egyptians did, while being 1000's of miles away, and no known way to communicate with them!

    I know!

I've often wondered why different cultures make circles and squares differently though.

Obama's search for a working mothership may have hit a stroke of luck.

In the video it looked like there were aged stairs and railing on top of the pyramid - has it been known about for a while, and only just recently archaeologists realized it was a pyramid rather than a hill?

They're common because when you don't have modern building materials like steel, the only way you can make something really tall (that lasts thousands of years) is to give it a wide base and taper it to the top.

This sort of makes me wonder why the Native Americans never built Pyramids!

I don't know about this particular one, but there's a lot of "mountains" in that part of the world people know are ancient structures, but they just don't have the resources or the time to dig into them. Occasionally, however, the experts will be surprised to discover that what they thought was a mountain is really a hill, so its not like they've gotten all of them mapped out. (They also like to keep these things quiet to prevent looters from ripping everything off before the experts can study it.)

The Incans and Mayans were most definately Native Americans. If you mean why don't we see any in North America, you might want to check out Monk's Mound.

For the most part pyramids are the product of collectivist/totalitarian societies. A free people don't build monuments and tombs to their leaders, or sacrificial altars representing the power of the ruling class.

Which is why the Iroquois built long houses instead of imposing structures glorifying the state.

Well, I think that could be read as a very powerful indictment of the United States ;)
