Not to bust into Forbin's yard deer tradition, but here are some pics of some elk. Some of my wife's relatives were camping in Arizona and took these. Males are bulls, females cows. Research "bulls bugling" for an amazing sound - like the sound like a bagpipe, it gives you the chills.
They are all over the Arizona "high country". Where WF member Chuck lives is an example of where they live. Pretty much anything above 5,000 feet in Arizona. They used to be more widespread in the US. But they are on the "comeback trail." Now many states have established elk populations. Kentucky is one example. Sometimes they drift down into north Georgia since it is part of the Appalachian range. They are very regal animals, maybe because they don't live in the suburbs like whitetail deer or moose do, so you don't see them unless you head out to more remote areas.
