Just ran across this tweet from POTUS: Looked it up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Emergency_Economic_Powers_Act He might actually have the authority to order companies out of China. Trumps administration a couple weeks ago declared China a currency manipulator. Of course this will end up in courts with lawsuits.
From your link Not seeing how "currency manipulator" (which China probably is) and "national emergency" are the same thing. Literally, everything you can think of that contains computer chips has parts made in China. Shifting the production to anywhere else on the planet is going to take a few years and cost billions of dollars. Even if the various companies lose, it is worth it to tie everything up in court for years than to start construction on new plants in another country (and the odds of that country being the US aren't exactly high).
You also have far right groups in the streets, polarised political clashes being a commonplace precursor to tyranny. The Weimar era was characterised by violence from both left and right. You do indeed have concentration camps holding people without due process, denying it doesn't make them disappear. You do indeed have snatch squads, they're the ones in squads snatching people off the street in case you were wondering. Trump is indeed delusional, he's also charismatic, that's how he got elected. Call him a troll by all means but the same descriptor could be used for most populist leaders. You do have demonised outsiders, Muslims being one, illegals another. Whether they belong there or not is immaterial to their status as demonised outsiders. I have a feeling any Jews who lived through the holocaust would view the current situation in the US as unpleasantly familiar, including the concentration camps. You have a leader who was pro gay rights before entering office but rapidly became the opposite once in, not to mention having campaigned and courted the fundamentalist demographic. I agree about the danger of a civil war, but gradually taking executive control of private industry "for the good of the people" isn't exactly a new idea either. All of this has happened before.
Not in the United States. And before you say anything, yes the United States is different than other nations. And what are you talking about "snatch squads"?
In your own words, without referring me to a book, what exactly makes the US different to other nations?
Too many to list. For starters (and one I've read that many Europeans often forget) is sheer size. Both physical size and in population. You then will ask "well how does this make the U.S. different to other nations". For one, sheer size means that a rabble rouser can't just get a huge following in a couple of large cities or a state and then effectively control the country. New York City is obviously the largest and most important city in the United States, but a radical with a huge following there would have little or no impact in the south, Midwest, or west coast. It isn't like the Nazis who get huge followings in a couple of cities and then take their show to Berlin. Secondly, the American political system (while we kind of stumbled upon this accidentally and didn't design it this way on purpose) is one that does two completely different things simultaneously. On one hand our political system has a whole range of what could be called "pressure relief valves" that serve to prevent tensions in the U.S. from building up to dangerous levels. At the same time our political system encourages long term stability and discourages radical changes. Part of this evolved because of the thing that all elections even national elections are still conducted by the individual states.
So on the size argument that makes China and Russia more important than other nations and inherently special? China boasts a multiple of your population. I'm also not seeing how the current evidence can support a case that the US is uniquely immune to populist movements, given a rabble rouser is exactly what you have in the White House. As for the idea that your political system is inherently different nothing you have described to my mind marks it out from dozens of other developed democracies which all come in various shapes, sizes and flavours and I'm not seeing how it's any more stable than the much older ones it is based on?
He’s claiming the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 gives him the authority. https://www.bing.com/amp/s/beta.was...9-8bf7-cde2d9e09055_story.html?outputType=amp
What we should do is gather a group of every other country in the region (plus north and South America) and establish a set of rules we all play by and in order for China to join they have to agree to those rules. We could call it the Across Big Ocean Association.
Generally speaking I scroll right by your posts because usually you're just mouthing off obscenities about people.
So it is all fine for @Zombie when trump does it and he excuses his actions, but if Obama or clinton had even suggested doing it he would have had a meltdown claiming they cannot do that because they are not king. You are such a hypocrite racist putz. I am not saying you are wrong in this case, but that you are just sucking the orange off of trump's balls.
Yes, that explains why one can normally expect a response from you, because you just really don't care and don't bother with anyone while you actually do. Seriously, are you actually the donald? This is something he is famous for doing.
Ummmmm asshole...... If it's the law I wouldn't blame Obama or Clinton for doing it. If anything I'd blame Congress for passing a stupid law. Obama's problem was he said he had a pen and a phone and was doing end runs around Congress.
I don't believe you. You would have a fucking meltdown. You would be losing your fucking mind. You are the most purest of hypocrites.
Not that I am complaining about the profanity, but how exactly does one do cunting? Seriously, could you attempt to explain that one because I need a description or visual aid for comprehending that. That is much more intriguing to me than another jaunt down @Zombie racism and hypocrisy lane.
Oh, and as for the followup tweet Trump sent attacking Fed chair Jay Powell? Bloomberg did the maths and worked out Trump stands to slash his interest repayments on his various debts by $3M if he gets the 1% cut in interest rates he wants (which is behind his attacks on the Fed). https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...ually-fed-rate-cut_n_5d61ce41e4b02cc97c8eafad
