It's been a long time since I've gotten a ban there, but TBBS still allowed access to PMs the last time I was canned. Dunno if you could pull up that PM and post it here, assuming any of that is true.

 

He was peddling this bullshit when he first came here and T'Bonz whomped him.

For his story to be even remotely true, both T'Bonz and frontline would have to be "lefties."

 

No, she didn't. She just protested that she doesn't ban right-wingers for being right wing. But she apparently didn't know that the mod who banned me conceded that the stated reasons were all false, and that even though I was actually trying to help the leftist's own arguments (because they were flailing around), it didn't matter, and that the ban would remain in effect until I agreed not to attack Obama.

One of the TBBS's problems is that a few of the mods are partisan trolls who do look for excuses to silence people they don't agree with, even if they have to flag jokes that they agree are funny and inoffensive.

I don't remember, as I really never pay that much attention to people's made-up handles, and anyway found the incident rather amusing as it just illustrated the mindset of supposedly liberal science fiction fans. I've probably only discussed it on various sci-fi author's blogs when the topic was intolerant subsets of the fan base.

 

And at what grade level are today's newspapers written? All of you DO remember newspapers, right?

When I wrote for newspapers, our rule of thumb was generally "write for an eighth-grader, but a SMART eighth-grader." Meaning don't use an overly technical vocabulary or assume a lot of background knowledge, but at the same time, assume that they're perfectly capable of understanding the subject so there's no need to simplify the content itself.

Oh, there really is no big question. Garamet is giving me shit about why I was banned, and it's not like getting banned from a sci-fi board is a life changing experience. That's why I never bother mods.

I was banned in an amusingly bizarre way, but it's not a reason to wake someone up or anything. However, if you check my message box, confirmation should be sitting there and maybe that would shut Garamet up. Actually no, nothing would shut her up. She's Garamet, bless her heart.

But yes, several of the mods hate me with a passion bordering on mania, and assume that anything I post must be trolling, despite only getting 10 infractions in ten years, mostly for jokes, and occasionally because I've so tuned our their trolling and baiting that I don't actually see their warnings as warnings., just more trolling and baiting.

But none of it is really important in the grand scheme of things, just crap that happens on the Internet.

So unimportant that you come to the most active of the Trek BBS spin off boards known for being sympathetic to Neuetered Zone Refugees and over your unfair ban in every third post.

Actually, I ended up here because I googled around for "conservative Star Trek boards", wondering where all the conservatives banned from TrekBBS ended up. That really doesn't produce any useful hits other than this one, and that is very indirect, probably just hitting on "Star Trek". Seeing the links, I remembered when WF spawned off, so I clicked, and recognized so many posters. It was like I was home! There was Garamet "Hi mom!" (we have this love-hate thing going on), and people I hadn't seen in ages because they rarely post outside TNZ.

 

Take it from someone that tried using the "HURR I HAET TBBS" schtick to get in with the Kool Kids(tm): It gets old. Fast. Whether the warning was correct or not, the constant pissing will just make ya look stupid, especially if you have no specific to back that shit up. T'Bonz is not Lisa and TNZ isn't the same place that led to the rise of Wordforge, Troll Kingdom and the many other splinter boards. Nor are you the first poster to cry about moderator abuse and we find out later that you were an asshole that deserved to be booted. Bonzie is here, either shit or get off this battle-worn pot.

It was a product of its time, when bannings happened so often that TBBS-related threads were clogging up the RR like Chad's gun spam was a while back. But it was already on the wane by the time I got here--I guess I've been here so long people forgot I wasn't a part of the initial migration.

The fact of the matter is, you can and pretend you crave these hoity-toity speeches with lots of dense facts and such, but if you got it your eyes would glaze over in 30 seconds and you'd be like "who's this braniac wonk think he is, trying to show us how much smarter he is than us?
