Zimmerman revelations in the trump years

I am not talking about new evidence, or even arguing the case. However way back then there were a lot of closeted racists. With trump shining his beacon of hatred we have seen some of these people, I am not saying any names for the sake of the question, either blow up as racist or show they are not racist.

Have there been any surprises or notable confirmations?

Thinking back on it do you feel you have changed your opinion on how things went down in light of recent events?

Again I don't really care to argue the case guilty or not, but rather see if anyone's views on such a volatile case have changed with the recent illumination of racial tension.

It's troubling to think that someone's opinion on a criminal case can be set by the prevailing political winds rather than a sober examination of the facts.

The evidence was insufficient for a second-degree murder conviction, and part of that was the law enforcement response. Zimmerman's behavior following his release have confirmed him to be a douchebag and possibly a racist. He has since been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and domestic violence, plus he has had at least one restraining order against him and has been thrown out of public places for using racial slurs and bragging about killing Trayvon Martin.

The Zimmerman trial wasn't the one that opened my eyes about this issue. It was the flood of stories afterwards that did.

Really? Like the one in Missouri that started the "hands up! don't shoot" meme? Where exhaustive investigation finally showed the officer who shot the guy was fully justified?

A clean record does not make a shooting unjustified any more than a long sheet of crimes makes a shooting justified.

That said, police incompetence is not a racist conspiracy.

The thing is that once you got past the "armed with tea and Skittles" and NBC deliberately altering the 911 call to Zimmerman saying "He's black".......then the prosecution had nothing.

All you had to do was see the pictures of blood dripping from Zimmermans head and the case for self defense was made.

yes, that is one example of the cops fucking up. Then again there are many more where the cops didn't fuck up so it evens out. Like church shootings - has anyone jumped on this yet? I mean sure it runs askew of the narrative for a couple of reasons - black guy going homicidal crazy in a church, and a good guy with a gun (holy shit is that possible?) limiting the carnage - but I figured someone would bring it up.

It is funny how when you bring up the criminal past of a minority defendant it's not important, but you bring up the same criminal past of a non-minority defendant and they are Hitler.

You see, way back when the Zimmerman thing was happening people were giving racists the benefit of the doubt. Now we can see the Zimmerman supporters for what they are because they have jumped the racist shark, but back then some people actually thought they were just really interested in making sure that an innocent man was not convicted. Now we see them all happy trump is giving it to the blacks for having the nerve to peacefully take a knee during the anthem, or because they do not think we should make heroes out of people who tried to rip this country in half so they could own black people. We don't have to pretend there is some ambiguity anymore.


It is the same people. The same people who think Zimmerman is excusable just happen to also be the same people who think there are good people with a noble message on the alt right. They are the same people who think it is great to March around with guns trying to protect monuments to slavery and racism, but silently taking a knee during a song to oppose police brutality is an act of violent treason worthy of fighting.

I was just wondering if anyone still bought the white lie. Back in the day it was rude to assume a person who thought stalking and killing a teenager for walking in his neighborhood in self defense was racist, but now we see yes all the people who thought Zimmerman was innocent were racist.

Isn't it nice Dayton no longer is potentially mistaken as a tolerant and decent fellow, and we can say he is racist trash, and the reason he supported Zimmerman is he likes when black kids get shot? Zimmermans an unsavoury character no doubt and i expect his behaviour influenced the events of that night but i've got to agree with paladin here. If the facts of the case have not changed and the law has not changed then really, the current social climate has no influence on the decision.

The taking a knee protests originally by Colin Kaepernick had nothing to do with the Confederate monuments issue.

I will tell you about that case. Zimmerman admits to following and stalking treyvon around the neighborhood. Now treyvon may have gotten pissed off and reacted badly. That is a teenager thing to do. Zimmerman is a fucktard, but what truly got the ball rolling for this particular case was the police department cutting corners in his initial booking/release and Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton called foul. Had they whatever the fuck Floriduh usually did in a SYG situation, we never would have heard of this guy.

There were many issues about this case, but unlike in many other high profile cases that have followed there was room for doubt for his guilt. I'm not suicidal enough to say this around black folks and his behavior since earns him no favors, but we don't govern by mob justice.
