Nice Chris, try staying on point here, M'Kay. :techman:

First of, the south, barring the loss at Gettysburg would have been supported by both the Brits and French, who would have been more than able to break the US blockade on the CS ports and flooded the south with industrial goods, paid for after the war with the Cash crops the north had tariffed to hell to grow as strong as it did. Learning from the lessons of the civil war, the south would have defiantly seen some industrialization.

Second, the North would have most defiantly have joined in with Germany in such a historical outplay. For Christ sakes man, the US was home to the second largest Nazi party outside of Germany/Austria itself. Hitler had planned from the start to allie with the US when he devised his initial plan for WWII.

Third, the Brits and French were all set to move in and support the south in the civil war, and had they have the North wouldn't look kindly on that.

Why would the CSA keep battling if they already won? I thought they were fighting for the right to secede, state rights, etc.

perhaps, but that is far less certain a play. we wouldn't know how the CSA's diplomatic ties would be with Mexico. You also have to wonder whether Mexico would side with the CSA against the USA because of resentment from the Mexican war, which the CSA could play into a "the USA would invade you if they had the chance we are the only thing standing between you and them...

Also remember that the Spanish empire was bankrupt at this point in time, and Mexico was on the run toward independence.

Technically, Abraham Lincoln strategicly lured the South into confrontation, making them shoot first. A bold move, and one that worked.

First off, I will respond to this neg:

    http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals/faq/taxrates-e.html

They come from the Canadian Revenue Agency.

Ok, now as for your question of percentage rates... lets look at a Canadian erning say $90,000

so, they pay 26% to the fed, 16-18% to province... thats already a total of 42% to 44%... now add to that the National health care that they pay into, and various other local taxes....

bingo, you're at better than 50% which is not good.

Mexico became independent sometime around 1820. :wtf:

Mexicans would resent Southerners more than Yankees since that is who they had the most contact with, especially Texans. In fact, if Texas seceded from the Confederacy it would protect the CSA from Mexican aggression. But if that didn't happen they would have been ripe for plunder, and the Mexicans would have been taking advantage of it for years.

well, it all depends on the leadership and how they spin it. High road, the end of the war comes with little territory changing hands and mostly economic sanctions. On the other hand, there is the risk of the war getting spun as a lets punish them for what they did to us in the civil war...

    Coin flip of direction.

Indeed, the first shot of a war isn't always made with Firearm or Cannon.

*Sigh* y'know, if Thomas Jefferson had listened to Thomas Paine, the south would have been colonized with Dutch immigrants, and we wouldn't even have had a cracker problem down the line.

    But nooooo.

Well, if the founding fathers had the balls to abolish slaverly in the constitution the whole issue wouldn't have been as dirty on the morality scale, and prevented 200 years of Racism, Hate, and poor politics...

Yes, yes, that's true, but I'm indulging my racism of crackers right now.

Imagine it, a south with no crackers.

No fuckin belt buckles, no fuckin cowboy hats, no fuckin accents, imagine it aaaall gooone.

Just Dutchmen with their little wooden shoes, as docile as Canadians.

    ....we woulda genocided 'em.

    Delicious.

....yeah, kinda like that Twilight Zone where a time traveler drowns baby Hitler, and the Hitler family's nanny replaces him with an orphaned gypsy baby, and the gypsy baby becomes Hitler.

....course, the image of alternate Tex with Dutchboy hair and clogs amuses me.

If the south had won I would care as much about all this yankee/southerner garbage as I do now. Also I would never consider moving into the south whether it be a part of the entirety of the united states or another country. Just too damn hot down there.

We didn't start WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, or the first Gulf War.

And you boys adopted "W", so...

Plus if you really wanted to split hairs, Pennsylvania ain't Midwestern, and Missouri thinks they're from the South so you can have 'em.

Not an expert, but yes, I do take an above average interest in history. I'm going to have to take your word on the quoting Turtledove because I haven't read but two of his books... and one involved time traveling south Africans...

But anyone who looks at what was going on at that point in time can see that a CSA victory would have set off the dominoes into the likely path I've been saying said.
