Interesting concept, but the CSA would most likely have absorbed most of the USA following the great war, the CSA and Britain (ie Canada) splitting the nation up between them.

Probably. The yankess have all been migrating south for years now. The midwest and NY are emptying out as ATL and FL fills up. Shit, flying into Miami now is like flying into Teterboro- all the controllers are New Yawkers.

If the South were a foreign country, the Northeast and Midwest wouldn't be depopulating to there.

Canada keeps itself alive by sucking of the tit of the USA. If the inflow of cash wasn't there, Canada would be bankrupt and fractured within a year.

Not really, between siding with Germany in WWI and WWII, getting hammered with sanctions and debts post WWI, and at the hands of both labor unions and leftist democrats like FDR, the Northeast and Midwest would be on deaths bed.

Simple, Canada benefits from both the currency value and trade with the US, And it is that income which keeps its bloated, overgrown, socialist government afloat. The average Canadian has to pay 60 to 75% of their yearly income to the government in the form of taxes now. How would they cover the loss of income from oil, timber, and other trade with the US. Not to mention the considerable tourism market.

Large German, Austrian, and Irish immigrant populations would have led the USA to side with Germany. the first two because of close family ties and ancestral pride, the latter because of Irish discontent with the UK control of Ireland. This would have lead to the CSA to strengthen it's already close ties with the UK and France built during the latter part of the Civil war and time there after, building pressure for a major theater of the Great War in the North American continent.

Turtledove is a writer, not God. Then again, you're consistently a Confederate sycophant.

Now if you continue to insist that a mostly agrarian country would triumph over the North, I will have to smack you. Besides, we'd never join Germany for any reason. We have far more in common with our British cousins and the Midwest is renown for it's hatred of foreign intervention. Foreign wars have historically had their roots in Southern men.
