I've been slacking on it this week- I've been netflixing the old Highlander TV series and that in turn has prompted me to break out the old bokken, jo, and hakama. Translation: I've been working out a good bit more than normal.

Well, I've been on a bit of a tear the past couple days. About 25 pages worth, actually. Once I have a chance to go back through that stuff for an edit, Ill put it up.

I've actually gotten to the point where I've started a notebook so I don't lose track of names and such as the cast expands. That's usually my indicator that a project is going to get pretty big.

    I see you've . . .

I assume Buck is going to react the same way as he did in the old series and show these folks how to do it old school. Good stuff, tho I think maybe you glossed over the awakening stuff a little too quickly.

Well, the awakening stuff isn't quite wrapped up yet. Buck still doesn't have his answers yet. ;)

But that was the hardest part to knock out- how the hell do you channel a guy who wakes up 500 years in the future and has lost everything? As for what you spoilered...

Preflighting my bird in Vegas this morning, I saw a few of those Area-51 737's taxiing out to take off- they are impossible to miss. They are very old, white with a red stripe running down the fuselage, and they have old, crappy turbojet (vice turbofan) engines on them.

Sort of made me feel closer to my own story. :D

I haven't read any of your other stuff, Marso, so I don't know if you have been published before, but to my untrained eyes, this is as good or better than many novels I've read.

I really believe this could be adapted to either a feature film or TV series pilot as a reboot of the Buck Rogers franchise. I wonder who holds that property right now?

Failing that, you could probably change the names and get it published as a novel anyway. Seriously.

I await with eager anticipation of finding out what exactly happened that caused Buck not to be revived on schedule.

Could it be that the project team was not entirely truthful with him about their intentions?

Or was he, in fact, revived on schedule but has somehow lost memory of those events?

And is Col. Deering, in fact, a long-lost descendant of the hot leggy redheaded Jenny Foster?

    Perhaps even Buck's great-great-great-great-...[etc]...-granddaughter?

Remember, it's 12 years later IRL than when we last saw her in the story. Jenny has probably already mourned Buck, hooked up w/ some Fat Cat High-Roller type, pushed out a couple puppies, and porked out on Bon-bons. :soma:

I've never been published (nor even submitted anything to a publisher) but I've been writing since before I was in high school. I've actually banged out about 6 full length manuscripts over the years, but they all need some work before they would be publishable. Thanks for the feedback, though, I appreciate it.

Stay tuned- more to come. :D

Well, part 2, Awakening, is a wrap. If you've read through what I've posted already then you've already got the vast majority of it- there's a bit more at the end dealing with Buck getting his T-ware implants and introducing another character. I've been pondering the last few days whether to end Awakening where I have or stretch it out a bit more, but I've really reached the beginning of Part 3: Assimilation.

Sometime over the next day or 3 I'll do the edit of that entire section and put it up in its entirety. In Part 3, Buck is in for more cultural shocks, history lessons, and the action shall ratchet up again.

    Stay tuned!

That'll come in bits and snatches, plus I don't want to fill in ALL the blanks too tightly. Sometimes that stuff is a little richer when you leave some to the imagination, and 500 years is a LONG time.

Banged out the first 10 pages of Part III tonight. Feelin' good!
