I can just see a 25th century HBO miniseries about ancient times, called "America".

In which two deadly shit-magnet mercenaries named Tex and Storm keep getting into trouble whilst Elwood tries to hold an empire together...

Okay, here's the final version of part 2: Awakening. Edited out some typos and mistakes, and caught (I think) all of the places I'd changed a character's name and then missed changing it. (Yes, I know, Find -----> Replace function- so sue me!)

If you've read everything so far, there isn't much new here, but there is some new stuff at the end. I'm well into Part III, but nothing there ready to post yet. Soon, hopefully.

    Enjoy!

Okay, I wasn't planning on releasing any of part III this soon, but I finished the preliminary edit on PT III Chap I, so here it is.

    Important

If you haven't looked at the post before this one and seen the file there, make sure you do. If you go right to this and skip that, you'll miss the intro of an important character.

    Enjoy!!

    Update

I'm on a fucking tear! Part III is up to 60 pages and going strong, and it's action packed, sport's fans! Buck is emerging from that angsty adjustment phase and getting down to kicking ass and taking names. The downside is that I've written so much that it'll take a while to go back and do the edit, but it'll be worth it. The next chunk that goes up will be meaty!

Here's more, as promised- this is a pretty big chunk. I forgot to remove the chapter 8 header from the very last line of the file before converting it to PDF- sorry 'bout that. That's where the action will resume!!

    One question, though...

Brock Devlin? Where have I heard that name before? It is SO familiar, but I just can't place it....

Do you guys want to hear something really bizarre?

As I write this post, I am sitting in the very hotel in Vegas, the Renaissance, that in the chunk you just read, sat between the grounded Barracuda and the Zetan saucer. I'm can turn and look out my window at the monorail running along Paradise road below me, right up to the Vegas Hilton about a quarter mile north.

Of course, I've stayed here before, which is where I learned the geography I used in the story, but I wrote that stuff less than a week ago, and here I am tonight, sitting 9 stories above the scene of the action, so to speak!!

I wish I had a digital camera with me so I could post a pic for you guys! :soma:

I landed right behind one of those Area-51 737's earlier, too!

With all the sitting around I did today, I managed to get another pretty good-sized chunk done- 'bout 20 pages. Part III is winding to a close, and we'll soon be moving to the final act: Part IV.

I must say, I'm enjoying this far beyond anything I've ever written before. For those of you taking the trip with me, thanks. You're making it even more fun.

Hopefully I'll have the final version of Part III done, edited, and up by early next week.

Hell, Marso, what you're doing is better than a lot of stuff I've been reading lately. *

*with the possible exception of "World War Z" which is a brilliant book everyone should at least look at. :techman:

    Update:

Part III is a wrap, at just under a hundred pages total. I should have it edited and up in a day or two.

    Part IV on deck!!

Marso, my hat's off to you! Thank you very much for giving me something that I have been lacking: A story that is so interesting, so well written and just so darn good that I can't stop reading it page after page after page!

I really mean it. I am extremely pleased and can't wait for the finished Pt III and Pt IV! :techman:

Man, when I was on the treadmill earlier I had this little lucid daydream in which I whipped up a new music video to Van Halen's 'Dreams'. It starts with Buck walking toward a scarab, climbing in, and then changes to his perspective. He's sitting in a blank, empty cockpit, and then the canopy closes on him.

The perspective changes as the T-ware interface comes alive, and now you can see everything in full perspective, like I described it in the story, complete with virtual displays showing the engagement of the thought-control interface.

When the music ramps up, you launch from the moon and proceed on a guided tour of the solar system, including close, fast appraoches and flybys of the Earth, Mars (to include a trip through Valles Marineris), the Jovian System, Saturn, and back home. Complete with coordinate changes and instrument shifts on the displays when appropriate.

I had the music cranked so loud I thought I was gonna hurt myself, and the chick on the treadmill next to me must have thought I was completely zoned out. I wish I was good with lightwave or one of those 3D animation programs- I'd make the damn video! :sokar:
