Bailey's post in the How Long Will WF Last thread got to me to thinking about how we are/aren't just TNZ2 (original TNZ of course). Which then got me thinking about not just the differences between old TNZ and here, but 'old' WF and the board now.

To me it just seems same old same old, but I'd be interested in hearing other's views.

    One name change later...

Aside from that, I think sometimes about the posters I miss. El Chup. PGT. gul. Cass. Techman, of course.

I dunno. A lot of folk are gone. We have new people of course, and while I enjoy having TKO and Mrs. Albert around, I miss the folk who made this place enjoyable to me to begin with.

That's the nature of the internet, though. People just eventually move on.

Gul's come and gone for years now, but what happened to PGT. Did I miss that?

Not too much has changed. In fact, we might be a little nicer to each other now, now that we know each other more.

There have been many influxes of new people. The percentage of people who came here from TrekBBS during the great migration continues to shrink, in terms of percentage, as people leave or are driven off.

People from the great migration that no longer post here anymore:

    Jeriko
    PBM
    Liet :bergman:
    trinity :bergman:
    Eccentric
    Borgs
    James Tiberius Kirk
    Stewey
    Techman :innocent:

It seems like there is a lot less people here these days.

Most of the replacement noobs aren't really all that memorable either. Every now and then they start acting a fool and appear on the radar. Sometimes they even develop a little bit of a personality.

I don't think the place has changed that much from the two years I've been here. The mod staff has shrunk by two-thirds, but that's about it. Same old dramas over nothing. The first RR thread I remember reading was that 743 post abortion known as PBM vs Dicky or whatever.

Never did I think a trip to this place to catch Stewey's last Enterprise review would lead to 13 thousand plus posts here. :wtf:

Form someone who pops in and out of here, the place seems to have mellowed in some respects. Like Scorp said, ya'll tend to be nicer to each other than in the past. That doesnt mean that this place has become pussified, it just means that you guys have a better understanding of each other. I still think this is a great place and to be honest, the perspectives that a lot of folks here have are damned good ones.

'Tis true. You can look at the early posts from 04 and early '05 to see how welcomed people like T'Bonz and Async were.

I wonder if that is true, or just a perception.

A couple years ago someone did a layout of all the posters and some such. I wanna sat NAHT or Bailey, but it'd be interesting to compare the various years, both in number of posts and number of active posters. Also % of posts made by top 20 or 30 posters.

Besides garamet, I haven't seen anyone refer to Async's TBBS mod days in a while with much bitterness, and even Reno's stopped foaming at the mouth when T'Bonz so much as lurks on the board.

I think over time everyone mellows out. Or gets bored with antics (theirs or others') and drifts away.

Seems to me there are slightly more rules now. The original idea, to me, was "say anything that isn't so blatantly illegal it will get the board closed". (RR of course.) That's no longer the case.

There's also a lot more drama, of course. The two probably feed into each other.

    Edit: In response to Packard

I think overfamiliarity leads to drama, too. You're much less likely to take offence at someone you don't really interact with rubbing you up the wrong way or saying something to bruise your ego than you are someone who you think of as a friend/social peer.

This thread needs a montage. Possibly a series of avatars, thread titles, and memorable quotes, combined with a sappy song--possibly "Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin.

OOH! That's it! All of Cass' avatars (and duals) and name changes. Add in some memorable quotes--like the one where she maintained that it was perfectly reasonable to negotiate with Iran--and then a couple weeks later how Iran was going to start Armageddon--that sort of stuff. Back it with "Cat's in the Cradle" and it would be perfect.

That or possibly a series of ghey Tex/Anc/Flow Photoshops set to Dr. Hook's "Cover of the Rolling Stone."

Storm and Cass seem to have gone off together somewhere and are ignoring us. I'm sure their neighbors have to call the cops a lot.
