Isn't that the same way at every board? You get a few vocal posters that stick out more than the rest of the lot, and people make their definitions of the board by those leaders. Just look at TBBS and the Voyager/Enterprise forums? Does anyone remember the quiet but sane posters, or the handful of shrill crybabies and people who think it's a hanging offense for someone to dare disagree on which character should fuck whom? :jayzus:

WF may have it's embarrassing moments (Nibbles!), but thankfully, most people can come around and unite against behaviors that are really wrong.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd rather we have a identity other than TK part 2. I mean, really. I think WF has moved up a bit from that and when we're not in a hissy over mod abuses and such, it's a great place to have honest discussion without being nannified and mollycoddled.

And in case anyone from TK is reading this, it's not meant to be a dig at you guys, just a comparison.

Mod abuse still runs rampant at WF. :bergman:

We've had several newbies who have been notable, and added to the discussion. IMO, Wordforge is growing, albeit slowly.

The problem nowadays, is that a few of us have lost interest in discussion. How many times have you skipped over a thread on abortion, or stem cells, or the Iraq War, or capital punishment, because you've already discussed it for the zillionth time, and don't wish to do so again?

And also, how many of us have truly mellowed out and just learned to accept that some people will never change? Before, it was like "No! That person is WRONG, and I'm gonna tell them why and change their mind!" Now, it's like, well, ok, to each their own.

Maybe we should ask ourselves this: Are we still a decent enough board that Polarslam would want to troll us? :chris:

    Hey, I haven't mellowed.
I still think some of you are subhuman monsters who need to be fought with all the fervor of a vengeful Batman on angel dust.

BUT, the ones who HAVE mellowed whine at me about it now.

Wordforge is a bit like "American Gladiators". At first it was fairly primitive, rough around the edges, and without a big audience. Then it got better; better Gladiators, better contenders, better sets, and a bigger audience. Eventually they started running out of things to do, the show got too large and unwieldy, and was canceled. I hear NBC is bringing it back now. I'm not sure where we are on that lifecycle.

Re: How much has WF changed over the years?

Not so much a "separatist" movement as posters who were chased away from TBBS. Many of us spent a lot of time in TNZ (as well as in a lot of the other fora, contrary to rumor) and the TBBS Powers-That-Were began talking about us behind our back, insulting us and laying down a general atmosphere of disrespect toward TNZ and many TNZ posters. Leaked BR threads at TK verified all of this. The general consensus was "why stay if we weren't wanted?" The atmosphere toward TNZ and TNZers at TBBS got more and more hostile, hence the exodus.

The rest, as they say, was history.

Actually, I only remember one wanktard fucker who shit his panties over Jen Lien/Kes. I don't think there was one Seven of Nine and/or Kes thread from 2003 to 2005 that didn't get closed directly because of his bullshit, and only until he was banned could anyone actually have a civil discussion on that subject. I'm glad he's [-]dead[/-] banned. :bergman:

While those threads might be perfectly good individually, having thousands of long dead threads filling up the database is the most likely cause for the boards loading problems lately. If you have any specific threads that you think are worth keeping give a link to ask for it to go into the archive.

Ah, when is the last time you guys pruned?

On a board this busy, you need to do it every six months or so.

I know from our board, if you don't prune, it really slows things down.

Now if you would just prune some of those asshole mods you have, then you would have some real improvement.
