to get the location of the girl he admits to kidnapping? LINK A moral dilemna. Try your best to save the innocent child or honor the hunman rights of an admittted kidnapper. What say you?
Of course they should torture him. Only a hippy with an inflated sense of self-importance would not advocate taking appropriate action to defend a child - the second most vulnerable in our society.

That's OK, I'm sure Dan and PGT will drop by and tell her how them feeling good about their moral choices is worth more than the cops finding her alive. You know, because there's never a clear cut case when this would be appropriate - they are always hypothetical.
While you're waiting, perhaps you can preempt them by citing a clear cut case where a kidnap victim was recovered following the torture of the perpetrator. Might take you some time to sort through all the instances where the perp said whatever he thought the interrogators wanted to hear just to make the pain stop, and the victim ended up dead because the cops were chasing all over town. Because obviously you believe such cases exist.
Awfully hard, isn't it - because if there was a successful case of it, the last thing that would happen is the cops would admit to such a thing. So either you knew that and are being intentionally deceitful or you didn't and you're being obtuse. Yes, the poor girls probably dead. But we don't know that, do we? In the meanwhile, it's been three days, and if she isn't dead, she will be soon from dehydration if someone doesn't find her. The clock's ticking. In this case, anyone who is saying that you don't do whatever you have to do to find out is also saying that the criminals rights trump that of the victims.
Should he be tortured? Legally, no. Ethically, no. Opening up the door to state sponsored torture is a bad way to go. If I was left alone in a room with him though, I would do it and take the consequences.
1. Growing in a trailer park 2. Named Shaniya 3. Father has different last name 4. It's Fayetteville This kid was doomed to begin with... it was only a matter of time...
Yes, because he is an ADMITTED kidnapper. This isn't a question of "maybe he has information". And if he murdered her already? We torture a child murderer - boo hoo. I say let the child's family members torture him.
Aye, the law is the law. However extraordinary cases like this are exactly what Jury Nullifications and Executive Pardons are for.
This summer my son + his girlfriend took a bus to NYC + back. During a long layover in Fayetteville, someone got fucking stabbed in the parking lot - and none of the bus terminal folk seemed surprised. Then, the head honcho of the terminal gave the security guard money to go to the store and get him some Newports....fortunately nobody chose that time to pull a robbery.
As tempting as it would be to cause this freak some pain, I can't support torture anymore than I can the death penalty.
Well how about a third option? I just stroll up and empty a shotgun into his head and then go home and sleep like a baby. I can't see a down-side to this at all.
Torture isn't going to work in a situation like this, because if the guy knows that as soon as he gives up the information you're trying to get out of him, he's as good as dead. A much better plan would be to do some good old fashioned detective work. Start from when he entered the hotel with the girl, try to lock down about when he left, figure out where he went from there. Review every traffic camera in the area, get the tapes from every store security camera in the area. Get the kidnappers face and the victims face on every channel, on the front page of every newspaper. Look up his debit card activity. Look up his cellphone activity. Look up everything. That's how you're going to find the girl, not by acting out some revenge fantasy.
Oh, and Captain J? You're a pretty sad fuck if you read a story about a kidnapped (and probably dead) little girl, and your first response is "Finally, an excuse to torture someone!" Seriously, get a fucking life.
I'd be quite comfortable with the use of "enhanced techniques" in a situation like this, but you'd better be damn sure you've got the right guy. After all, you get a lot of weirdos confessing to things they never had anything to do with. What's the first thing he's going to do when you break out the bolt-cutters, blow-torch and episodes of Barney? Recant his confession. Then what do you do?
There was a similiar case in Germany. A suspected kidnapper was interrogated, and the child in question was still not found. The police officer threatened the suspected kidnapper with torture and used unlawful force on him. Finally the suspeced kidnapper confessed and unveiled the location of the child (who was long dead). The police officer was brought before court. The court senteced him to a "fine on probation". This was a way of showing that the rule of law does not allow for exceptions from the law, and at the same time acknowledging that the situation was so extreme that the police officer couldn't be really punished for it. That's the way how you handle such situations.
In America this would stir up several lawsuits + counter-lawsuits - and several book deals and a T.V. movie or three as well.
American "moral dilemmas" will spell her end one day. Put one testicle at a time into the mouth of a nutcracker and slowly smash down, and if THAT doesn't work, disembowel him.
No. You handle such situations by taking whatever measures necessary and rewarding those with the balls to do so with medals. FUCK HUMAN RIGHTS.
I believe the USA succeeded exactly because of its oldest values. The rule of law. Equality before the law. The victory of justice over unjustice. The establishment of irrevocable rights. To negate that, is to negate the successful track record of the USA and its principles. If it will end one day, then not because of those values.
You would make an excellent public school teacher over here. With propaganda like that, you'd be hired in a heartbeat.
Tough call. Officially no, torture should never be used. However when the cameras are off and the boss goes to get coffee, well...
