Change to Rep System

Hey, if we can't do that we'll just fill MF threads full of images of tub girl and feces.

I'm sure that's the intent of this plan right? To shift trolling to a new level?

 

Isn't that what we already have with members like Sokar and Liet who are already at max red? Any minuses given to them are basically meaningless.

To be fair, he could be permanently in the red and it wouldn't stop him from posting what he does. Rep is a fun little toy, and a nice way to pat someone on the back for something they've said, but it's essentially useless in the grand scheme. Unfortunately, it foments discontent and drama due to it's perceived value.

 

The rep system is just fine like it is. Leave it alone.

If you don't have negative rep being worth anything then the whole rep system is worthless anyway. And this from someone who was in the red for years and years.

This sounds like the system at PoliticalForum.com where you can only "positive rep" people.

The result is that the place is overrun with unrepentent dickheads (yeah, much, much worse than here). I'm talking about birthers, truthers, and all manner of craziness. and with no way to show your displeasure, they hang around like a bad dream.

I've had plenty of unpopular opinions over the years and I know I will again. But still, the popular opinions of the membership as a whole should make a difference in some way.

 

We pretty much have that already. And hopefully this change in the rep system would drive off those unrepentant dickheads that place so much importance on their rep games.

 

Which is exactly why this is not the time to change the system.

 

The thing is, everyone plays rep games sometimes. Both sides. And people only care about the "games" when they place too much value on the rep.

 

Or if they place too much value on how much value the other side places on rep.

 

It seems to be paying off quite well right now.

Here's the thing though. Rep 'wars' as some people like to call them, are one of the main attractions to this site.

There are a lot of times where there happens to be a rep campaign, and some posters will spend more time here after they've dropped their load, and start threads or reply. You take away the call of rep war, and people spend less time here.

I really don't get why some people want it changed, considering if they don't want to play rep games, they have the option of turning it off.

Garamet and a few others have turned theirs off. They don't want to participate. Fine. So why are some people basically saying "we don't want to participate in rep games, and we don't want the rest of you to either." ?

On the contrary. Rep is part of the board's self-policing. Generally, it's asshats and dumbshittery that gets negs. You never see Chuck getting negreps. Chuck is an intelligent, thoughtful poster who behaves himself. Apostle went after him one time and got negged into oblivion for it.

If rep didn't bother you, you'd turn your rep on. Heck, let's reset Sokar to 1 billion posreps.
