Thread disruption avoidance is a benefit of the rep system?

I gotta disagree Tex, the rep system has disrupted many a thread. The comment value has been reduced to simply commenting without bumping a thread.

It is not a reliable indicator of quality posts. If anything it tends to be an affirmation of the existing cliques on WF.

Perhaps Wordforge has outgrown the rep system, it was fun for a while but now it seems little more than disruptive. A side to be taken, a substitute for substance, a means of piling on without expression.

Are you sure you wouldn't prefer removing the rep system altogether?

    I agree with Clyde.

If rep meant quality posts then that would mean that the best posts on WF were made by Maud Dib, Uncle Albert, and Tamar, in that order.

And I think we all know why Tamar's rep is so high...

No, that's why Zel's rep is so high.

I'm sure Wordforgers spend day and night thinking about my medical issues and feel obligated to throw some pity rep my way to induce healing.

    New schtick.....you need one. :jayzus:

It only disrupts a thread when people repwhine.

Maybe that's how you use it, but when I hit "agree" or "disagree", it's because I either agree or disagree with something someone has posted. :bailey:

Only according to you. I seem to recall you being banned for some of the posts you've made here.

Sadly, despite my best efforts, I haven't a clique. :(

Wasn't speaking specifically of you. :)

Huh, I don't have a clique either. I've also been the victim of a couple of rep wars myself, and yet in spite of that, I had no problem at all with rep the way it was. How about that.

    Ok, some comments.

One, everyone wanting rep changed back to how it was (my preference): Shut up about rep for about six months.

Everyone that supported this change to begin with then started the chants of rep whine when Group A wanted it changed back: Just shut up. You guys are just as a annoying, if not more.

Tamar, your shift on the rep position has been enlightening.

Now, since negs have been neutered, I've really felt no need to block posts that have been negged that I agree with or just want to block to counter an asshole's neg.

Conversely, I don't really feel the need to dispense negs as a rule because they don't mean much. Lanz, you're turning me into Async! It seems I'm going to have to start using bigger words.

Final thoughts: Should you decide to set things back, I'd recommend having a three option system across the board --
    Agree (pos rep)
    Comments (neutral rep)
    Disagree (neg rep)

There are enough times where I'd rather not neg or pos someone, but I don't want to be buried in the red just to 'comment' without a new post.

    That all said: :clang:

Just as an update on this since I saw someone mention it earlier, yes I'm working on this, unfortunately we're having some issues with the host, so it will take a bit longer than expected.

    I doubt it.

My personal position is the same as it's always been...I don't really care about rep except as a handy comment tool.

However...it's good for a board to do and try new things and approaches sometimes and see what's best for the board as a whole, lest it become dead and crusty and boring.

Where this is going and where it will end up...I don't know. But doing something new is interesting and it's certainly fascinating to see some of the reactions to it.

    That's bullshit.

You were gung ho for many a rep war in the past. Even as a member of the staff.

I'm not seeing the conflict. Just because she used it for rep war doesn't mean she had a vested interest in a specific outcome.
