It's bad enough that a US Representative and Senate candidate would subscribe to such crankery, but the really scary part is that a large portion of the electorate actually wants to hear this kind of thing.

What a fucking moron. Unless he has a doctorate in medicine and then I'd have to say he was a quack.

Hey much like Biden before him he said he misspoke -

“In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it’s clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year,” he said. “I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action.”

    No he didn't.

What? You've some psychic connection to what a large portion of the electorate actually wants to hear?

Does it work on donkeys too?

But did he "misspeak" the bit about "mental abortion"?

Yeah, doesn't pass the smell test. And before Clyde continues his effort to equate this with Biden's goofiness, just remember that the stupid shit he says isn't telling people who have suffered that they didn't. Caboose is right, Akin is a moron. The question is how many voters will realize this.

What do you think is meant when he speaks of "legitimate rapes?"

There was no mental abortion bit, here's what he said: “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Gul tends to exaggerate issues when it comes to elephants.

And let's remember he's not the vice-president, and he didn't imply the opposing team was going to re-enslave folks, and he said he goofed, and nobody is going to twist up into a pretzel to insist what he said wasn't dumb.

No exaggeration about this elephant. How else should we interpret his words? What do you think he meant?

Just answered. Now tell me more about your psychic ability to know what a large portion of the electorate actually wants to hear?

This still doesn't make any sense.

I read this as some idea that the female body can self abort or has the means to keep pregnancy from happening if it is indeed a forced rape as opposed to some other type of rape.

    It's idiocy.

I bet my old ultra-liberal friend who's been posting anti-republican shit all over Facebook latches on to this one. Which will be hysterical, because when she found out she was pregnant 30 years ago, the first thing she said was "That's impossible, I jumped up and down right after sex to get the stuff out of me!"

I think he's confusing this with something a Doctor probably did say to him..

That when a pregnancy "isn't right" that the female body will abort the fetus on it's own.

Of course, doctors are referring to genetic anomalies not moral imperatives but it's the only thing I can think of that remotely resembles what he said.

It's of course, ridiculous, to think a woman's body will know she was raped and self-abort. Pure ignorance.

Clearly in his mind it's that tiny fraction that isn't "She was asking for it" or "She said 'yes' and then changed her mind."

And from that, plus the remark about "shutting it down," we're supposed to understand that if a woman is "legitimately" raped (as opposed to "making the whole thing up"), her body will magically reject the fetus.

Therefore, in his universe, any woman seeking an abortion with the claim that she was raped is a liar.

I'm wondering where exactly he ever got that idea. It looks like a case of someone wanting something to be true so much that facts are inconsequential.

There's nothing creative about it. It's the logical conclusion to "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Unless you can parse it some other way instead of just shrugging it off with "he made an idiotic statement."
