Lots of spoilers from the first 30 minutes floating around from a press screening in Brazil. Still no ID on the villain, though.

I was actually thinking of print SF.

I actually like most TV/movie SF - even that other folks don't.

Can't go too far wrong looking up stuff written by people who wrote for Classic Trek, and Twilight Zone.

Watch. It'll turn out Cucumberbatch's character is actually really a GOOD GUY or a neutral character. Peter Weller's character will turn out to be the baddy! That'd be redundant canonuity-wise having already played baddy Paxton on ENT, despite MOST Trekkies NOT giving two feces about ENT.

    But it wouldn't surprise me.

Like it or not ENT has DOUBLE canonuity. It's doubley apart of BOTH the canonuity of the Roddenberryverse AND the Abramsverse.

I really liked Safety Not Guaranteed. It's got a cute, funny story and the is-it-or-isn't-it-sci-fi angle is fun, too. I find Aubrey Plaza strangely appealing.

I expect something very much like that to be the case. Initial word is that Cumberbatch's character elicits some sympathy from the audience.

Well, at least we have some sense of the character Peter Weller is playing.

^Thank you for that kind introduction.

I'm already sensing some familiar scenes from the first movie, most notably Kirk in a bar talking to Pike.

(BIG SPOILER ABOVE DON'T READ IT)

    This sounds awful.

But I'll give it a shot. I like Bruce Greenwood as Pike.

I'm still not paying for it though.

    Don't be.

Abramstrek has proven to be awful.

Despite all the fanboys oohing and ahhing just because it was popular with a mindless general audience.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

Why can't or couldn't they JUST make a movie that'd be a good 2 part episode? I'm sure there are unused TOS and TNG drafts that would make great templates for movies. Probably if not definitely better than the "fast food" we've been given.

WHY this need all the time for TEH VILLIAN? And "car chases (with shootouts) in space". They need to STOP beating dead horses. We've all seen all this cliched formulaic claptrap before.

Maybe Spock could go back to San Francisco in the 19th century and met Sam Clemens and fall in love with Jack London. Then after losing poker to Gul Dukat they could all just settle things over a beer at Mrs Carmichaels boarding house.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

I urge my fellow dislikers of Trek xI, as well as its haters, to go into & approach Trek xII with an open mind & a clean slate. FORGET the first movie. This is a NEW movie & story. Give Abrams & Lindelof a CHANCE! Be fair.

We may end up disliking or hating it MORE than the first one. Or we MIGHT be pleasantly surprised:tos: Or somewhere in between those things.

I liked that one too. But it's really more like a quirky, nerdy romantic comedy than scifi. Nothing wrong with that, however.
