    Re: star trek:into darkness

Being there's NO originality left in Hollywood anymore ANYWAY, why doesn't Abrams & Co. just raid the landfills & junkyards for "nu" ideas? Recycling IS good for the environment yes? So Abrams could/should just remake the JAWS and/or SUPERMAN franchises in a Trek 2.0 shell/template! Voila, problem(s) solved!

    IE:

Trek 12 would be SUPERMAN reborn in a nuTrek shell, Trek 13 Superman II (Cucumberbatch's nu"Khan" will be ":zod:"), Trek 14 supes 3, Trek 15 supes 4, & Trek 16 supes returd. Or alternatively (re)use the JAWS franchise here? Aquatic Xindi can be the "shark(s)". Or even/why not BOTH?

Anyway, what IS nuTrek in the end? Abrams recycling something! :techman: JJ for bein'/goin' GREEN!

    ;)

    They already did.

The movie was called "Star Trek" otherwise known as "Abramstrek"

    Re: star trek:into darkness

I thought there MIGHT be some significance to that. We still don't know who Peter Weller is playing but, of all the characters mentioned by Robert Ocri--one of whom, he claimed, is a part of the story--it seems like he could be Harry Mudd.

If so, then I wonder if somehow "Harry's son" = "Harrison." Perhaps, Harrison is not Mudd's son in the literal sense, but maybe Mudd is involved in his creation.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

Hmm. Someone on the Wired website posted the idea that John Harrison could be
At first, I dismissed that idea, but, oddly, it seems to fit the facts:

I'd call it a long shot--especially given how the plot would have to work that out--but it's an interesting idea. Wouldn't a confrontation between Kirk and this character be something of a wish fulfillment for fans?

I doubt we are going to see Time Travel in this movie, it was purely there in the first one to give an explanation for the reboot.

    Re: star trek:into darkness

As exciting as it would be to see a rebooted Picard, I really hope they don't pull a Voyager/Enterprise and continue to use time travel as a crutch for science-fiction story telling. As Bailey said, it was only used in the first movie to establish the reboot. If TPTB really want time travel, give it until the 4th/5th movie or so before bringing it into the mix again. There are so many other possibilities that Trek and sci-fi delve into that they haven't yet explored.

They already made Picard the bad guy.

    He was called Shinzon.

    Before that, Locutus.

And you could make a strong argument, Picard in First Contact.

For some reason, it seems that lots of Trek writers and producers have fallen in love with the idea of "Picard as a bad ass".

Of course, I was never that big a fan of Picard anyway.

Let's just hope, regardless of our varied & diverse opinions of ST '09, that ST '13 will be a good movie. I'm NO fan of Abrams (nor Lindelof), but we WON'T know Jack Schidt about this next nuTrek flick's quality until we see it in the theater in 2+ months! (OBVIOUSLY!)

Hopefully Abrams'll please his fans MORE, & have also made a movie that we Abrams dislikers will like & enjoy!

Keep hope alive! Keep the faith brothers:tos:

I, too, doubt that the writers would go this way. But, the suggestion having been made, it does sorta fit. Especially when you listen to Cumberbatch's voiceover in the trailer. Doesn't he sorta sound like evil Picard?

But I'd bet against it. Another time travel plot would seem repetitive.

My best guess is that 'John Harrison' is a completely new character who arises from some situation we're not familiar with.

Having someone in it with an "everyman" name and bringing back Picard, the best Starfleet captain since Jonathan Archer (Kirk and TOS was shit) really shows that Abrams is the right man for the job.

So fucking brilliant. I can't wait to add to the millions he deserves, even if those who aren't as sophisticated as regular people can't comprehend what is actually Star Trek done well.
