Comments like this just reinforce much of the immaturity in American politics and reinforce why I routinely point out how people who call them conservatives in America rarely have anything to do with political conservatism.

You throw around words like "hipster" and "liberal", but let me tell you something. Where I come from the vast majority of people aren't racist. Aren't homophobic. Aren't prejudiced against people because of other religions. Aren't wound up about guns or abortion....and that carries across the political spectrum. It's only a minority of whacked out types that still hold onto such bigotry. In America, unfortunately, those whacked out types aren't a small minority. They get away with stealing the word "conservative". But not tolerating bigotry is cornerstone to the very principles of freedom and democracy we live under. To dismiss people as SJWs simply because they try and defend equality is to dismiss people who believe in the very freedoms you live under and enjoy.

It's nothing to do with being liberal or hipster. Not tolerating bigotry should be a constant across the specturm, whatever your general political views otherwise are.

If there were a hypothetical cure and homosexuals wanted to cure themselves, would you object to that?

I would continue to object to calling it a cure. If someone wanted to artificially change their sexual preference for some reason, and the reason doesn't result from some form of oppression or discrimination, I would no more object to a heterosexual wanting to be gay than to the reverse. But if said person is deceived about thinking that one choice is pathological, so the other could be considered a cure, I am strongly against that deceit.

But once the brain is wired, it's wired, so it's not going to be an individual decision. The choice will be made by a person's parents, who are also tasked with making all sorts of other profound health decisions for the children.

I'm still trying to figure out what it has to do with real life, or how it makes any valid point about the kid's claims in this thread.

But that's not the issue. The issue is whether parents have any business decided what their children might one day be inclined to do in the privacy of their own home. Since parents are trying to pass on their genes, their decision will be obviously biased.

So, homosexuality is wrong because some dude who lives in the sky doesn't like it, and he's all sorts of powerful so we should do whatever he says. All-Powerful Sky Man doesn't tell us what he wants himself or actually interact with us in anyway. Instead, we get all his instructions in the form of a 2000 year old poorly-written book that says it's written by people that know what the Sky Man wants from us. This makes perfect sense because, you know, omnipotence doesn't include, you know, effective communication skills. If we don't do what Powerful Sky Man wants, we have to spend forever inside some sort of giant volcano while that guy from the heavy metal album covers tortures everyone because Powerful Sky Man is a dick, apparently.

So, yeah, wanting to be all romantic with people the same sex as oneself is definitely the mental illness here.

The sky god provided an update that said homosexuals have to be put to death. It's not up to us to reason why because the sky god is infinitely smarter than we are.

Then I suppose that the original premise -- that it could be cured -- is valid. Because this would mean that (unlike blue eyes, for example) homosexuality indicates something wrong/defective/malfunctioning with a person's sex drive, opening up the possibility that it could be fixed, or that a fix would be beneficial. My point is that we are so pathetically obsessed with not "offending" gay people that we have lost the ability to defend heterosexuality as the designed behavior. We have become idiots who actually believe people are just randomly gay or straight, afraid to admit that homosexuality is a glitch.
