I've no doubt everything from the postman being late to a meteor strike will be blamed on Brexit in the coming months.

I disagree with brexit and think it is a path frought with pitfalls but things could turn out better than the alternative. Much depends on maintaining market access (free trade) but that is mutually beneficial so it shouldn't be a tough sell for reasonable people. The problem is the EC is run by unaccountable, unelected, wannabe dictators who are hell bent on trying to punish the UK for daring to tell them no.

I truly hope we have a US President with balls who is willing to go to the wall to defend the UK as a vital American ally and interest. Full blown trade wars shpuld be threatened to make the EC do the right thing (which it should be doing anyway but is not). Nothing less than full free trade without quotas should be exceptable and I suspect if serious opposition with real economic consequences are brought to bare they will crumple like the cheap empty suits they are.

As long as a reasonable continuation of the status quo wrt trade is on the table then it is the obvious right choice no matter how butt hurt the EC is.

The EU minsters might be inclined to try and punish the UK, but in the long run, there's no reason the UK wouldn't have the same trade relationships as Switzerland and Norway, which never joined.

That is about 50% of the benefits with 80% of the costs. If those were reversed it might be worth it but they are not.

So to your way of thinking, US foreign poliicy should be determined by whatever stupid choices are made by the Brits?

Yeah, I'm gonna have to call that a stupid idea.

That article seems to sum up Spain's position. It says nothing about them intending to block Scotland's membership.

Nothing wrong with that, except that the Leave campaign was against most of the provisions of the common market.

Oh, I do have a clue. The people there don't want their lives dictated to them by Europe. I love the British people and their culture. I think you will see other countries getting out as well. Another Velvet Revolution. The Germans still can't let go of the dream of controlling all of Europe again.
It is also very nice to seee you on here Auora. I hope you have been well. What is the talk in Vienna about this?

This is an excellent example of how I will have to spoon feed you boys. Are you ready? Here we go, little guy:

    http://www.euractiv.com/section/uk-...ajoy-sends-warning-to-scots-on-eu-membership/

It is from 2013 but it shows quite clearly that Spain is trying to make life harder for a perspective independent Scotland while the other article speculates despite the public claims Spain would actually take a harder line in order to discourage its own breakaway regions.

    It goes on to say:

Hmm, what does the rest of European citizens mean? Given that he just spoke about Catalunya it is an obvious vailed threat aimed at them especially since he made a point of saying they wpuld start outside and need all 28 member states to agree with even one disagreeing means they would not be let in.

If you are too stupid to understand the vailed threat he was making it, even after I spoon feed it too you, then you are the one with the major malfunction.

The threat is indeed against a possible attempt from Catalonia to join the EU after separating from Spain. Nowhere does it say Spain would block a Scottish membership.

They are certainly trying to make it harder telling them they would have to start outside the EU then reminding them that any one country could block them. If that is not a thinly vailed threat I do not know what is.

So, gul, which words are giving you the most trouble? Repeating your lies among a small group of like-mindeds is considered a circle jerk, not a victory or validation of your errors.

Reply even once on the merits about falling rates of growth in wages in the EU or US and I'll concede for a moment that perhaps your brain doesn't compete with your penis for which is the smallest on gul.

To be fair, Gul has a long pattern of ignoring what people post or simply not reading their links then making broad sweeping nonsensical pronouncements about the stuff he never read. It is kind of his schtick.

Hell, I was just discussing this topic with him recently.

Your reading comprehension is failing you once again. I said I disagree with Brexit but that making sure tge UK gets a fair deal is a vital economic interest to the US. If that means the US has to threaten to throw its weight around then, yes, as vital means vital.

If you read that slowly and sound out each word I am sure you can grasp the meaning of that post.

No, you were closer to the truth when you were working with direct quotes (so please do keep that up). The threat is clearly directed at Catalonia, not Scotland.

Clearly it is directed at any breakaway region. That is why he SPECIFICALLY meantioned Scotland by name. Go back and read the quote again. I don't mind spoon feeding you guy but I don't want to have to bump you too so actually do need to read and understand the quote.

If breakaway regions are allowed to easily join the EU as independent actors, it means lots of regions might choose that option to lift the yoke of whatever national government has pissed them off. Spain can't approve Scotland leaving the UK and staying in the EU or it will set a precedent for Catalonia. The same might hold true for many other EU states, making approval unlikely.

And this, once more, is why everyone says you can't read. Your claim was that Spain has said it will block Scotland's admission. This is false, and when you used direct quotes from your source, you realised this. What they have said is that they insist on having a vote, and then they clearly threatened that they would block Catalonia's, not Scotland's, admission if such a vote came up for them. Again, you came very close to saying so when you were quoting your source directly.

Here's another direct quote from your source to help you with fact checking your original claim, that Spain said it would seek to block an independent Scotland's entry to the EU:

spain alone blocking scotland wouldn't prevent anything in catalonia. it's a given the motherland would make catalan independence as hard as possible. madrid doesn't need an example to make that clear.
