So again, you wouldn't be opposed to a white man playing Fredrick Douglas then?

No they don't. I wouldn't have cast Amy Adams doesn't mean I think she is a bad actress or doesn't do well as Lois Lane, it just means I would have picked someone else.

If they did a reverse casting of blacks as the slavers so the story about race makes sense, sure why not?

It would really, really help if you'd read what other people said before you just reiterate and reiterate the same stuff ignoring the rest of the discussion around you.

Once more, all together now: For some characters, race is connected to their role. A black Scarlet O'Hara certainly makes no sense, nor does a white Martin Luther King. A black Spartacus could make sense in a specific way, but it would mean exploring that dimension deliberately. But nothing about MJ, Perry, or Nick is connected to their race.

Any particular reason why you wouldn't have? Besides having red hair instead of the usual brown, I see nothing that different about her or any other actress that could fit the description of Lois.

So it's okay as long as it's white people we're swapping out? How racist.

You know, I would love to see something like this made just for the mind losing outrage it would cause.

Probably, cuz everything is a BFD online. As as someone said in one of these threads, the reason people get particularly pissed with swapping whites into minority roles is because whites have never been in danger of having their history or culture erased, and so few recent roles have been written for blacks or considered for black actors.

That we've had to have three threads on this issue shows exactly why Uruha's presence on the bridge of the Enterprise mattered so much.

....she could fucking dye it, numbnuts.

Fucking A, that never even made my list of criticisms for that movie. I honestly never would have given it a second thought if this crybaby thread didn't exist.

Come back when you know how tor read, and can explain why you were unable to recognise the bolded point although it was made close to 50 times over 6 pages in three threads.

I threw "White Jesus", into a post as a gag, but seriously, if you've all been okay with Honkey Jesus in movies and art all these decades, when he would have been an Arabic Jew, and that's getting RELIGION wrong, dancing the edge of actual blasphemy, and you've been a-okay with it, how DARE you cry about a goddamned comic book, which has zero effect on your alleged immortal soul?
What would your GOD say about treating comics as holier writ than the Bible?
I think it would be interesting.

The thing that kind of makes me go :wtf: is how people have practically jizzed themselves over the protagonist of the Dark Tower adaptation being "race swapped" (for lack of a better term) in spite of this arguably changing an aspect of the universe it's set in, yet lose their shit over Major Kusanagi being played by Scarlett Johansson where this arguably wouldn't be an issue due to the particulars of that universe. The way I see it, they're both adaptations, so they can do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned. Really all I get out of it is that it shows you who the actual racists are. :diacanu:

    Interesting; how do you figure?

(As I said back on page 1 of thread 1, fidelity is just one half of the argument; the other is a need to increase diversity, and that definitely holds in this case. But I'm interested in your fidelity argument anyway.)

See, you're basing your argument off a false premise. These are fucking comic books, TV shows, and movies than span decades. There is no real continuity. Every iteration has been different than the one before it in more significant ways than the color of a character's skin.

Three reboots of Spiderman movies within 14 years, each different from one another and the actual comics. How is that respecting source material?

Are you unfamiliar with the Ghost in the Shell universe? The Major could have any body she wanted considering that she's essentially a brain in an android body.

 "Increasing diversity" is not a valid argument in storytelling, especially if the character's race/sex/whatever has no real bearing on who the character is and the part they play in the story. Sisko is not "the black captain," anymore than Picard or Kirk are "the white captain."

Since I posted all the reasons in the source material that supported my view, and you couldn't be bothered to come up with 1, or even comment on any of mine, that is some major league bullshit right there.
