You know that Star Trek isn't just about what is in-universe, right? The whole point of it has been to give commentary on social issues. Sisko was the perfect character to not only tell stories that reminded us of the lengths we still have to go to to overcome race issues, but the very fact of him being black and the captain was a way of demonstrating a hopeful future where the people of all races can ascend to the highest position of authority and respect - just as Janeway was a symbol of gender equality.

From what I remember of that thread, the way he phrased it pissed off more than just Sokar, but it's since been cleared up that Doc has a problem with the court trying to back out of the ridiculously light sentence.

I think Polanski should be hung by his nutsack, but I can't say I don't understand that part of the argument and what a slippery slope it is to have judges change their minds.

Basically, there was serious judicial and prosecutorial misconduct that should have resulted in the entire thing being thrown out. At least one sitting judge in the US has admitted as much, but he also acknowledged that such a finding would be a career killer for any judge unlucky enough to have to make that ruling. I don't have that much faith in the American legal system, so I see no reason for him to go back and try his luck. Even the very worst criminals deserve a fair trial.

So maybe next time you could learn to read what people actually wrote instead of simply imagining what you wished they would have written and then falsely attributing it to them? I call that the reality based approach.

In the show it was more of a case where the two wives were friends so the two husbands sat around taking pot shots at each other. The banter was pretty good and it shot the Jefferson's up to their own show in no time. It was certainly better than Sanford and Son.

I think there are still Jefferson's reruns on the air.

Someone upthread mentioned cultural erasure, and I was working up a parody response about Irish oppression, but, that's something that actually happens so...I'm just gonna blatantly state my point. Erasure is stupid no matter who or what culture you do it to, if you want better representation than create a new character that flies whatever flags you want. Just don't make those flags the character's sole motivation or mindset, or they are gonna suck.

As its been stated over again in this thread, having ONE depiction of Mary Jane Watson vary from the countless others is far from an erase. By the time Zendaya costs too much for Sony to pay for in the reboot after next, she'll probably be a lily white redhead again. Geez.
