AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH The weather chopped off a part of it for me. But I got to see that ending.

I was in fear Bronn would be toasted. Literally. He's one of my favorite characters.

    That ending battle was spectacular.

And for someone who was determined to break the wheel Dany sure seems hell bent on making a new wheel.

And damn if she's not getting meaner by the moment. Pretty soon she'll be spewing fire out her mouth instead of the dragons.

I am kind of surprised she had her dragon burn all those wagons full of food. She said they were running out of food so you'd think she'd want to capture them.

The callbacks to previous episodes are really interesting.

Like when Dany asked Jon if his pride was more important than his people's survival. That was the same thing he asked Mance Rayder way back when.

And of course Bran telling Littlefinger that chaos is a ladder. IIRC he said that to Varys very early on in the show.

The Arya/Brienne fight was great although she did seem to be showing off a bit. That might get her into trouble.

I'm trying to figure out how the Children of The Forest ended up all the way in Dragonstone? Weren't they all in the North? Or did they use to occupy more of Westeros?

Three more episodes left. Who else will die? I doubt Jamie will die this season, but I wonder if Tyrion will fish him out of the water?

Tyrion is clearly very conflicted right now. And Jamie too. A very screwed up family.

I sort of figured Meera would stay with Bran and be his bodyguard but he basically told her to fuck off. Kind of rude. I guess he is beyond friendships now.

That battle scene was EPIC!!!! I was all "OMG, Bronn's gonna die! Wait...OMG, Jaime's gonna die! Wait...OMG, Drogon's gonna die! Wait...OMG, Dany's gonna die!" Hell, I might've even thrown in some worry for Dickon, who I'm liking more each ep.

Basically the only characters I wasn't worried about were:
    a) the nameless Dothraki,
    b) the nameless Lannister soldiers, and
    c) Randyll Tarly ('cause he's an asshole)

I don't think Jaime dies. Bronn will save him, most likely. Or perhaps Dickon. Or perhaps Tyrion, although that's doutbful.

I liked the strategy of the ambush...Drogon's fire burns an opening in the Lannister lines, which the Dothraki ride through. Chaos ensues. Most likely the Dothraki would've won anyway, but that small bit turned it into a slaughter!

I remember Dany said she was short of food for her Army so I was surprised to see her burning all those wagons. You'd think she'd want to capture the food intact.

At least in the books Randel Tarly has some redeeming features. After the war of the five kings Tarly was one of the few lords trying to deliver justice, hang bandits, and restore law and order. Sure, his brand of justice was harsh and usually ended up with people dead (including being locked into cages to die from exposure for all to see) but at least he was doing something when most lords weren't.

I am unclear if Dickon and Randel died in the recent episode.

Yes, but why did they fight with men against walkers right down there? And didn't they create walkers in order to fight off the men?

Well, that seems to have been answered in the show. They mined the dragon glass there and even though the Children created the Walkers, they grew beyond their control.

They did create the White Walkers to fight off the First Men.

Eventually they made peace with the First Men.

It's not known why or when they lost control of the White Walkers but it's clear that they did as they fought with the First Men against the White Walkers. They also helped the First Men build the Wall. It's their magic in the wall that kept the White Walkers north of the wall.

It's also not known if the White Walkers even fought with the Children against the First Men. Perhaps they tried it, thought it a failure and discarded the White Walker not realizing that the King would go on to build a huge army of the dead. It's not clear.

The First Men with the Children had control of Westeros. So we can see they probably were all over the place looking for dragonglass to fight back the White Walkers.

Then 2000 years after the war with the White Walkers the Andals invaded Westeros and pretty much finished off the Children of the Forest. The Andals and the First Men fought to a standstill with the First Men becoming the North while the Andals are what we consider the southern part of Westeros.

^^^ They've mixed in historical Westerosi lore throughout the series. It's probably been mentioned at some point in previous seasons/episodes. Not recently, for sure.

Yes, there is a history book about the history of Westeros which you can buy if you want all the details. Originally Westerous only contained two intelligent species. CotF and the Giants. There was a land bridge connecting Dorne to Essos which the first men used to cross. The CotF almost immediately started fighting with the first men because the first men were cutting down their sacred trees.

To stop more men reaching Westerous the CotF used their magic to destroy the landbridge thus creating "The Broken Arm". That kept more men from migrating there but they were still fighting the first men who were already there thus they created the Others to fight the first men only the Others went rogue and starting killing the CotF as well as the first men thus the original alliance where men and CotF fought together to defeat the others. That was ~12000 years ago.

From 12000-6000 years ago the first men and the CotF had a pact where men would have ownership of the open spaces (fields and what not) while the CotF would own the forests. This worked reasonably well. However in 6000 years before present the Andals invaded and conquered Westerous bring their religion about the seven and they saw the CotF as demons/outsiders/things to be killed so they burned or cut down the weirwood trees and killed all the CotF they could find.

Trying to make a last stand the CotF fled north and once again tried to cut their remaining lands off from the rest of Westerous. They were only partially successful though. They used their magic to create the Neck (the swampy low lying narrows between the north and the riverlands) but they were too few and too weak to successfully break it as they had with the broken arm. Realizing it was only a matter of time until the north was also over ran they went north of the wall.

That pact between the CotF and the firdt men? It was made on the island in the middle of the gods eye lake. The island is supposedly taboo to visit and the only people who do live there are an ancient order known as the Green Men who never leave the island. Thus it is suspected some CotF might still survive there. I suspect Bran will have to go there though that is just my guess.

The wiki says 6000 years not 2000 is when the Andals invaded. After that the only two other invasions were first the boat people who fled from the doom of Valaria who settled in Dorne (the Rynar or something like that) which is why the Dornish are dark like Essos people except for the far west of Dorne where the guy who almost killed Ned was from) and then Aegon with his two sister wives and their three dragons.

Edit: The Sword of the Morning from Starfall in the very far west of Dorne where people remained mostly ethnically Andal instead of the majority Rynar as in most of Dorne.

    http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Timeline_of_major_events

The timeline is not in stone. According to Martin's writing in the books the Maesters can not agree on exactly when things happened. We are talking thousands of years ago according to book history.

When the Andals crossed the narrow sea from Essos is disputed; some sources indicate six thousand years ago, (Which would put it two thousand years after the White Walker invasion)[7][8] the True History states it was four thousand years ago,[9] and some maesters claim it was two thousand years ago.[9]\

So I go with my sources and you can :carryon:

GoT Hackers demand ransom from HBO

This is stupid. Reminds me of the ransom demand from hackers to Netflix because they obtained S5 of Orange Is The New Black. Netflix and HBO don't rely on ratings and advertisers for revenue. Once they collect their subscription fee, I honestly don't know if they care that much about how many people actually watch their shows at the time they air. Releasing an episode a few days early has no effect on HBO's business.

Exactly. HBo have leaked GoT before themselves, and have all but gone on record saying that they profit from their shows being distributed on the internet. Releasing episodes before the first airdate is worse, of course, but I don't think it's bad enough for anyone to be effectively blackmailed.
