Only after days/weeks of swearing that she was also telling the truth.

Until it was beyond obvious it was bullshit.

Yeah don't try to play that card.

Yes, the dems are just as bad. Look what all the women did to Bernie who has no complaints like this against him? They turned him into a sexist creep because some russian bots pretended to be bernie supporters. Look at their voices on the view who were schilling for bloomberg as the savior of their race because Bernie was a sexist creep according to them. Look at what warren did to a man she knows was not sexist and helped encourage tons of girls and women to fight for themselves. You know what their thanks will be? It will be shut up and look the other way or be labelled a troublemaking bitch by the establishment and lose your reputation and career opportunities. You bring up this shit with places like HR and kiss your ass goodbye and be paraded around in the news as that bitch.

Women do it to themselves, but they are not alone. The GLBT people sit silently in the closet watching their people get tossed out because if they stand up and are not the lucky one they will get hammered too. It is the same for black and brown people. Once they get in they have to look the other way and play white and they cannot drag their relatives up the ladder like white people do. Even white people do it. If you are not the right white guy forget trying to get someone else in, but if you are the right type of white you can drag your idiot brood anywhere and force others to bow to them like a trump child.

The only thing I say is if you plan to stand up and fight be prepared to be labelled as a problem child, and then be prepared for those people you try to help jab a knife in your back and use you as a ladder. Look at Bernie. The only reason he got anywhere was because Burlington is a hippie area. That does not spread very far as we see from the primaries. Even the people who protested and marched with him in the free love era are voting for the establishment that wants to take away their social security and push them into the gutter because old people are not profitable anymore. They used them up and now the people that they vote for want them to die so their stock portfolios can increase.

It is just the way of the world, that is how it is meant to be.

If Trump manages to lose this election, it will be because he was just that incompetent about the pandemic, got that many of his base killed by his "sarcastic" advice or the far less likely event of Biden picking a strong VP like Warren. Biden will have finally failed upwards after campaigning for President for 30+ years through no effort of his own and more propping and shilling than either Clinton ever got in their respective Presidential campaigns.

I mean, Mitch might impeach him over the accusation out of revenge, but would Democrats actually stick to their guns to vote him out of office?

Mitch McConnell can't impeach any president because he is in the Senate. The House has the sole power of impeachment. Assuming the House doesn't flip and neither does the Senate, the Senate cannot force the House to bring articles of impeachment.

However, the GOP Senate would certainly hold hearings similar to when they grilled Hillary over Mr. Benjamin Ghazi.

Ford is more believable than Reade?

Reade can tell you where the alleged incident occurred and when. Ford cannot.
Reade can tell you with absolute certainty who is alleged to have assaulted her. Ford cannot.
Reade accuses someone who is known to have made women uncomfortable with unwelcome touching. Ford's alleged attacker has no such history.
Reade is known to have been close to Biden. Ford cannot demonstrate she was ever in Kavanaugh's presence.
Reade was not under the influence of alcohol when the alleged incident occurred. Ford was.
Reade's claim is that she was genuinely sexually assaulted. Ford's claim could be dismissed as drunken horseplay.
Reade told people about the incident at the time, and those people have backed her. Ford claims to have, but she has not been backed, even by her closest friend at the time.
Reade's claim is about a veteran national-level politician. Ford's is about a high school boy.
Reade has near-contemporaneous documentary evidence from many years ago. Ford does not.

It was said that the Kavanugh allegation would require thorough investigation as he was vying for an important office. Biden is running for the most important office there is.

If you believed Ford, but find Reade not credible, I have to assume it's because you favored using charges against Kavanaugh as a weapon, and not as part of any pursuit of truth or justice.

I thought I made it clear I believed both women are telling the truth and that it is in the interest of both parties to discredit or dismiss survivors as they see fit. I don't condone it in the Democrats anym than I do the GOP. I even had a go at one of our more liberal WFers for insinuating that she should have come forth sooner to stop his nomination and I don't have to explain what a disgusting double standard THAT is. At least, I shouldn't have to.

I'm tired of having to choose between predators.

If Biden's accuser is telling the truth, Biden is guilty of rape. If Kavanaugh's accuser is telling the truth, he's guilty of drunken wrestling with a high school girl at a teen party.

But that is blindingly obvious on both sides to a neutral onlooker. "Believe all women" is just as stupid as "Don't believe them unless there is clear proof" (of something that happened, almost by definition, with no witnesses...). And neither of those approaches is used consistently. How many of the people ready to crucify Biden and demand that he be withdrawn as his party's candidate are saying the same thing about Trump, who is known to have bragged about sexually assulting women, and who has far more accusations against him? It may be that the accusations against Trump are groundless; nothing has yet been established in a court of law and "innocent until proven guilty" is still (and should be) the principle of law. But it is applied very differently, according to whether or not you like the man who is being accused.

It is the same old principle, seen time and time again in debate: an argument that seems to give credence to what you want to believe is accepted much more easily than one that tends to uphold what you don't want to believe. Why did Republicans massively uphold the impeachment of Bill Clinton but not Donald Trump? Why did Democrats massively uphold the impeachment of Donald Trump but not Bill Clinton?

One should always be very cautious about evaluating an argument when one "has a dog in the fight", but people just don't work that way.

My position with Biden is the same as it was with Kavanaugh: let's hear the evidence.

But the silence from those who claim they support women who have been victimized is deafening, and when one compares the two cases the inevitable conclusion is that the support is a lie. They're only paying lip service in order to use it as a weapon.

And the mainstream press's double standard here shows why they've lost the trust of much of the public.

    One should.

But what does the mainstream press fanning the flames against Kavanaugh compared to their silence/defense vis-a-vis Biden say about their objectivity? What does the MeToo movement's tepid, near non-existent support of Reade say about their sincerity and dedication to justice?

I'm charged with bringing this up because it will benefit Trump. Fair enough. But if so, I'm not the only one acting in biased way. The media and MeToo are, by their determined silence, undermining their own proclaimed goals--truth and justice--because it might benefit Trump.

How much injustice will you tolerate to hurt Trump?

    Absolutely.

And for that matter, it's the same with Trump. The fact that Trump has bragged about sexually assaulting women does not prove or even tend to prove that he is guilty in the case of any specific accusation. One should always hear the evidence. The contrary is what leads to lynchings (whether literal or figurative).

Exactly what I said in my earlier post: people accept arguments depending on what they want to hear. Anyone who thinks the media are objective is living in a fantasy world. CNN and all the others have a clear agenda just as much as Fox News does. None of them are objective.

I'm not sure it will benefit Trump. Trump has been accused by something like 15 different women, Biden by one. If people think Biden should be disqualified because of an as-yet unproven accusation, then Trump should be disqualified in the same way.

Unless one thinks that Democrats actually do care more about sexual assault allegations than Republicans, which is why pro-Democrat voters would turn away from Biden while pro-Republican voters would not turn away from Trump despite the case against Trump being 15 times stronger than the case against Biden. I'm sure some would say that about Republicans and pro-Republicans, but I don't think you would.

It's an almost 30 year old accusation being brought against a guy as he's running for a prominent office. I can't take it seriously. Saying that, how they treated Kavanaugh set a precedent, and it's clear that the media and the democratic party are ignoring this woman because she's accusing a member of the inner party. It's clear that some animals are more equal than others here.

I have to agree and this was very well stated. Every point is right there. This is the problem with Biden. He is a creepy dude who is full of himself and has been around doing things. The very nature of his touching is a power play over people. This is who he is. I do not want it to be so. It would be really nice if he did not have this baggage. It is very disrespectful to women to pull this fucking shit at this point. Don't shoot the messenger, this is the way the DNC plays.

Well, Chris Hayes has now reported on the Tara Reade story (and there is now a campaign on Twitter to get him fired, though it is Twitter so...), and while it's only a start, since he didn't seem to mention that Biden has decades of sealed records in the University of Delaware library but won't be released until two years after Biden's retirement from public life, or that Tara's mother called into Larry King in 1993 about the issue (she doesn't mention Biden by name), or that Tara Reade's employment with Biden ended shortly after the incident. Still, now the ball is rolling towards the center of the public square into prime time cable TV (took fucking long enough), and the longer Joe Biden holds off from addressing it directly, the worse he'll look to people who either give a damn about women who are sexually assaulted, or those who just want to see him fail.

This BBC article kind condenses all of it down if anyone is interested, and mentions much of what I've said already. They also lay out why it might not hurt Biden, which does involve some of the very reasons some of you will still vote for him despite what is said or discovered over the course of this story as it unfolds. Essentially, it would probably come down to who is the worst rapist, and the Democrats would likely vote for Biden anyway, despite having "higher moral standards."

Oh, and for the next one of you who has "but her story changed" on your lips, ready to respond:
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/opin...ies-not-credible-kavanaugh-column/1497661002/

You can shove that article directly up your ass.

You all know Biden's history, if you're being honest with yourself. You know his behavior, and you know that "harmless," and "old fashioned" doesn't qualify at all in this day and age because those are patriarchal sentiments. There is nothing "harmless" about being fondled and sniffed by an older man, and against your will. There are many stories like these:

    You already know this.
You know what Joe Biden is like.
Before Tara Reade was ever a major story, you knew what he was like.

This is all true, but let's be honest, most of the remaining Wordforgers here don't care about women or they never would have elected Trump, who had a pending court case about child rape during the election. For them, it's a game of one-upmanship to take down another Democrat and an excuse not to reflect on the shitshow Trump has turned the Oval Office into. :marathon:
