Something weird is going on there. Sounds like a mismatch between how the swabs were used in the study vs how they were supposed to be used. The question then, is, which way are practitioners actually using it? The study isn’t meaningful if they’re running it differently from how it’s actually being used.
Knock it off, willya? It's a basic Prince Valiant pageboy. Got it wrong the first time (too short on the left side), but I corrected it the next time. And I don't post photos, not here or anywhere. The trolls are still getting mileage out of that screen-cap from 2003. When Soma and Flashy post verifiable photos of themselves, get back to me.
I read the paper. There’s no conflict of interest declared, but it reads like an advertisement for the Cepheid Xpert Xpress. There are sentences like “These authors also determined that the GeneXpert had the lowest limit of detection at 100 viral copies/mL” without reference or description of methodology. The core discrepancy seems to be over how long it takes between taking the sample and starting the test. The authors went for “realistic” conditions and waited a long time before starting the tests. Abbot recommendations “as soon as possible” and no more than two hours. They don’t have a referenced reason for doing this, rather speculating that two hours isn’t long enough to get swabs tested from field testing locations rather than hospitals. I don’t think I’d let this paper be published without serious revision, if I had anything to say about it. Not to say its data are wrong, but it doesn’t have much evidence, even in the form of citations, as to why they’re relevant. Further investigation is warranted, as Abbott’s claims of 0.02% false negatives ring super hollow, but this paper just doesn’t seem very good.

Burr stepping down amid the probe into his stock dumping. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/05/14/politics/richard-burr-steps-down-intel-chairman/index.html
Mixed feelings. Overall Burr has done a pretty good job leading his committee's Russia investigation. He hasn't acted as a partisan stooge, unlike his House counterpart Devin Nunes. OTOH, the stock dump is shady as all hell and I'm glad the FBI is investigating.
Dr. Bright's testimony was damning. And yet there are pieces of shit that still are defending the President's response to this.
An estimated 300K people have died from the virus. It's taken less than a year for the disease to hit that total, and that's with numerous measures put in place to try and stop the disease. That averages out to ~50K a month. HIV was identified in 1983 and has killed an estimated 32 million in the years since then. If the current rate of coronavirus deaths continue for 37 years, 22 million people will die from the disease.
Doctors: Let's Take a Look at Children and COVID-19 Digestive problems are often the first symptom Doctors say they are also concerned by the rise in cases in the US and worldwide of children being hospitalized with a dangerous inflammatory syndrome. Researchers believe the mysterious syndrome is linked to COVID-19. During his testimony before a Senate panel Tuesday, Anthony Fauci said we should not be "cavalier in thinking that children are completely immune to the deleterious effects." He was responding to Sen. Rand Paul, who said it was "ridiculous" to suggest schools might have to stay closed this fall. The Guardian notes that while children make up fewer than 2% of confirmed coronavirus cases, relatively few have been tested and studies have reached different conclusions on whether they are as likely as adults to get infected.
Things like this mutate, and different countries will have different human strains that might react more severely to the virus. This is why the claims "children are not in as much danger" should not be taken seriously when talking about opening schools when we know schools are a major area of spreading any sickness in our communities.
So this is from March. Was he lying or was he just trying to prevent people from hoarding masks which would also mean he wasn’t telling the truth
Followup on the article in Post #6406: Rand Paul's attitude is intriguing, given that in 2013 his father established the Ron Paul Curriculum, an online homeschooling program. One would think Junior would be supporting that instead of trying to push for physical classrooms to be reopened. Is he defying Daddy by aligning himself with Der Drumpfenfuhrer? It's not as if he has underage kids at home getting in his curly hair. Or is this simply another case of "Okay for me, but not for thee"?
Ron Paul went pretty far with the Libertarian philosophy. Rand Paul is a toadie who sucks up to Donald Trump and slavishly follows the party line. Don't let yourself be fooled by the family relationship or the similarity of names. They are worlds apart.
Likely neither - reopening will be impossible if workers can't dump their kids onto the school system during their shifts. All about the "get the feckless proles back to work!"
I would have to agree with this. The only thing I would have to add would be that Ron wanted states rights so he could be racist again, but Rand just wants racist code words and policies while putting an equal rights stamp on things to pretend things are good.
