mmm you're going off on a tangent. The question is how is the French train incident relative to this thread's arguments supporting the 2nd. I'm not going back through 1,000 posts to diagram it, but you're welcome to and prove me wrong.

The Moroccan is claiming that he wasn't trying to carry out a terrorist attack, he was just going to rob the passengers - with an AK and 300 rounds of ammunition that he found in a park.

Here that would just be called residential burglary in the 1st degree. The level of violence is why they have three different degrees of residential burglary. Why invent a new term other than for shock value?

What do you want to bet that in the 80's not a single state had an offense called "home invasion"? What do you want to bet only a few (so far just one) states have changed the name recently and it was probably by some shit stain scary mongering politician out to get reelected?

Somewhere there is a defense lawyer who will actually back up his story, no doubt. Who among us hasn't found 300 rounds of ammo for
And your point is? Who among us hasn't been in a park (in western Europe no less) and we just happen to find 300 rounds chambered for the exact weapon we happen to be toting that day? I'm sure any jury member could relate to this.

    I found 500 rounds of 9mm once.
    I'd ordered 500 rounds, and a week later I got double-shipped.
    Gave some to my friends.

I've said this before, but there must be some dumbass criminals in the rest of America. They always seem to break in in the daytime when people are home.

I've lived in NY and L.A. - two of those :ohnoes: cities that @oldfella1962 has convinced himself are almost as :scared: as Augusta, and I don't know anyone who's been at home during a break-in. The crooks in those places tend to park up the block and wait for you to go out before they punch through your flimsy back door and take our stuff. The last thing they want is a confrontation.

So I guess suicidal thieves and drugstore cowboys proliferate in the boondocks.

The vast majority of home invasion robberies that occur here are perpetrated by gang-banger types. So they're not all that bright in the first place.

I don't personally know anyone who's had it happen to them, either, but it happens.

    It happens in L.A., too.

^Proportionate to the population, that's a teensy number of incidents.

Lock your doors and windows, have neighbors who look out for each other, leave a light (and maybe a radio) on when you're out at night, and you're as safe as you would be with one of those over-priced security systems, IMO.

I've had one break-in in over 40 years...local high school kids kicked in my back door in Staten Island (old house, original door, flimsy lock, ultimately replaced). Husband and I were at work, kids were in school, it was raining so the old guy next door was not out in the lawn chair in his front yard minding everybody's business. Thieves grabbed a few $20 bills left on a bookcase in the living room, dumped all my jewelry on the bed and figured none of it was worth hocking (they were right - never found the good stuff), took one look in my daughter's messy room and thought "Aw, fuck, no!" tried to move the TV and decided it was too much trouble to lug it in the rain and, most heartbreaking, took all the loose change (about $2.00 worth) off my 8-year-old son's bureau, and split.

Came home and the cat was looking at me with her Sgt. Schultz expression: "I know nozzing! Ab-so-LU-tely nozzing!" Called the NYPD, and they said "It's local kids. They won't have a record. We can dust for prints if you want..." I said, "Thanks, never mind!" Replaced the back door, including a drop-bolt lock, the next day, end of report.

We did have a starter's pistol in the house (courtesy of our theater group), authentic-looking enough to scare anyone off, but they never came back. I reimbursed my son for the loose change, but he was bummed for a week.

There are a million stories in the Naked City, but it ain't all Law & Order...

And don't let Enterpriser or Tamar or Flashy have access to your current address. :bergman:

Here, unfortunately, the likelihood of a home invasion has a lot to do with where you live. The bad guys generally do them in poor neighborhoods, which is ironic because those people have less to steal.

I suspect it's much the same in L.A..

 Around here they'd rather lift somebody's Beamer off the street than try to get through the security gates and the yappy dogs and have to actually go looking for stuff in somebody's house/apartment.

I think that's why they do it in poor neighborhoods here. Easy access and the victims are much less likely to have a gun in the home compared to "better" neighborhoods.

I don't know about guns (this is California), but we're packed in so close I can tell you which sports program my idiot neighbor (the one who sounds like Ray Romano :bang:) is watching in the next building even as I post this.

I understand he's moving soon. Please, please, please...

In terms of whether my neighbors in SoCal, given our regulations to control drugstore cowboys like you, have as many weapons in their homes as, say, Forbin, she said.

Sucks for you that the First Amendment came before the Second, huh?

I got a free archery shooting glove once on a double-shipment. I lost it in the woods though shortly after.

When I think of "home invasion", I think burglary-plus.
Like, rapey like "Clockwork Orange", or rapey plus killey like "Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer".
    Y'know, going the extra mile.

Yes, Home invasion is a robbery where the robbers intentionally break in when someone's home because they also like to hurt people.
There's a variation referred to as "push-in robbery" where they ring the bell, and when you open the door they, ya know, push their way in, usually at gunpoint.

And for the really eccentric among us who have a revolving door in our home, there is the "spin-in robbery." Your only hope is that they get dizzy! :dizzy:

Did they ever frame a sane argument, or did they just keep herping and derping?
