Almost all of them are online, often people trying to dox me. There's no way for them to be held accountable. While I am usually very careful with my personal details, I've been on the internet for just shy of 30 years. There's no way to have a completely unknown profile.

Something interesting in that line of thought, though: recently, my dad had to call the police because a former co-worker threatened to kill him, and I mean in front of witnesses. The responding deputy told my dad that it isn't illegal to threaten someone. That it's "freedom of speech" and unless the offender actually acted on it, there was nothing that could be done.

 

There goes restraining orders then.

Oh, yeah, it was funny, and by funny I mean fuck the police, because the deputy told my dad that he was more of an aggressor than the guy who threatened him because my dad responded to that threat by saying "well go ahead and try."

 

What does that have to do with anything? Hell I was run off the road by an asshole and I didn't call the police. Does that mean it didn't happen? Did I imagine it? Do you think Amaris is making up threats against her? because she didn't behave the way you imagined she should?

 

I'm trying to establish what she considers a serious death threat. I wouldn't consider the following to be a death threat. But with The Hyperbolic Bunch TM, you never know.

That's a death threat for sure. Is it to be taken seriously because you got into an argument with a random person on the internet who lost their temper? Probably not. Not all "death threats" are equal.

Thank you, unaffected person, I will take your casual dismissal of the death threats I receive with all of the consideration due them.

 

Here's a real life example for you since you can't seem to wrap your head around this concept. Every day the President, regardless of party, gets death threats. The Secret Service has to asses which ones are credible, as in a guy in his basement making a pipe bomb is planning an assassination attempt or is it just somebody just blowing of steam. Obviously they can't track down every single person and round them up because as the cop said, some of it amounts to a first amendment question. You have to be able to do the same. If you can't understand that, then maybe you should stay offline.

 

So just get yourself a Secret Service detail, and some FBI investigators, Amaris.
