Fox News/Smartmatic Election lawsuits

The Swanson connection is through his stepmother, not mother, so probably not loaded when he was born because his dad was a local teevee reporter and his mother was an artist.

But, yeah, from age 10 or so he probably had a very cushy life, though it's unclear how much money his stepmother inherited when Swanson was sold to Campbell's in the 1950s.

My thoughts on his firing are:

• Outstanding. It's a pity that he wasn't hit by a bus when he left the company offices.
• My initial take was that after the Dominion settlement and with the Smartmatic lawsuit still looming, Fox looked around the room and asked, "Which one of these motherfuckers is most likely to go off the rails again with some bullshit that costs us even more? Tucker Carlson: pack your shit."
• I wouldn't be surprised if he's not the last. That Bartiromo bitch was just as bad as TC with the Dominion lies.

Could be.

A lot of people think he got shitcanned because of his comments about Nikki Haley, but the aftermath of that revealed that he created a hostile work environment, which is one of the very quickest ways to be shown the door.

Sorry for all the posts. I've had a very busy day and couldn't comment until now.

And I also think that Carlson will be headed for a podcast as soon as feasible. Rogan has proven there's boatloads of money to be made from the marks out there, so Tucker will likely follow suit.

But will Fox viewers follow him there? Do old people even know what podcasts are?

Olbermann, who has some experience being fired by Rupert, says that it was Tucker making Rupert part of the news story that did it. Rupert doesn’t like that.

Oh, and reportedly, law enforcement officials have asked Dominion for the stuff that they got from Fox in discovery.

Someone suggested that he be Trump’s VP pick. If that happens and Trump is running on a third party ticket, it’d be a way for both parties to purge the wing nuts in their parties.

Looks like it was a single text message that led to the settlement with Dominion as well as Carlson's firing.

Rupert also didn’t realize that his ex-fiancé, who is a rabid Carlson fan was extremely religious until she whipped out a Bible at a dinner with Carlson and the two started talking about Jebus.

I'd imagine that there was some level of plausible deniability in most of the dog whistling that Tucker did, like when he said that immigrants dirty up America or when he echoed replacement theory or bashes Black Lives Matters. "He didn't mean it like THAT-- stop trying to put words in his mouth!" or "he's just exaggerating for ratings" or whatever.

There's not much spin to be put on criticizing actions as "not how White men fight" in a private message like that. It's both clear by his inclusion of the race there that he thinks White people don't gang up on people (which is woefully idiotic) or that they shouldn't (because they are morally superior to non-White men, who do fight that way). And just casually bringing it up with nothing (likely) prompting the racial factor says a lot about how that sort of thing is almost certainly in the back of his mind constantly.

There are like 5 different stories about why he was fired now. Either they’re all true and it took the combination to get him fired, or most of them, while true, are irrelevant, or are a smokescreen for the real reason. Even the NYT piece says:

I’d bet the WSJ report is most likely correct, just based on the ease of getting info.

Or they’re all just trial balloons, see which story goes over best and then someone eventually “leaks” that it’s the “real” reason.

Rodney King disagrees.

This little flicker of clarity didn't make him stop hate mongering for the next 2 years.

What did the WSJ say?

From my sense of things, the possible rationales have included:

1. Direct fallout from the Dominion lawsuit (i.e. Fox execs or its insurers were given marching orders to not repeat the Big Lie any more and Carlson wouldn't play ball, or they feared he wouldn't so he was fired)
2. Carlson's upcoming sexual harassment suit was so problematic that they had to let him go
3. Carlson was caught badmouthing Fox execs including using the C word to describe one of them as captured in his text messages in the lawsuit and they took it personally (insert Jordan meme from The Last Dance).
